He's also got stitches on his visible shoulder so it's not just the leg, The brown stains are definitely supposed to be dried blood, but they could definitely use a bit more red in them. But also worth mentioning that this is just a piece of art, not the model itself. The weird parts may look better there.

Though the crosses would definitely be more thematically appropriate as ankhs that one can't be argued.
