No one from EN watch anime nor read manga except for Irys. An otaku can have many interests and even in anime there is so much variety. In the west it tends to all homogenize. It could be they're more genuine otaku than their fans, but still don't share interests with you or others.

It's insane to think a majority of vtubers don't know about anime. Putting aside that it's a career that self-selects towards otakus/weebs in the very first place for obvious reasons, anime is so fucking mainstream now that American house wives watch Kimetsu no Yaiba and Spy X Family even if they don't go anyn further than that. We don't live in 2003 anymore where watching anime gets you picked on at high school, people will literally play up their power level and pretend to be weebier than they actually are as a dating strategy.

Like a lot of hobbyist interests the biggest point of contention is whether or not they follow the current series or if it was a part of their life they can't afford to follow anymore, like so many anons that look back on the 2000s series nostalgically but can't follow isekai for shit.
