There has been a growing backlash towards react content over the past few years, led and ignited especially by DarkViperAU's manifesto and video series detailing in no uncertain terms how react content only hurts creators an d how any counterarguments are fallacious at best and morally repugnant at worst. And yet it seems that vtuber fans haven't gotten the memo? Reaction is still a not insignificant amount of vtuber's bread and butter, especially for most of the ones under Vshojo, and this is not only accepted but even celebrated. Why the cultural divide?

The backlash is against streams as well, make no mistake. One of the examples Viper used was of Hasan watching a Jay Exci video in front of 30k people but the video only gaining 200 more views. It's theft all the way down.

In my opinion, the real problem with react content is when the streamer uploads their reaction in youtube and directly compete views with the youtuber that they're reacting to potentially fucking up the algorithm for the guy and tanking his views. React content is lazy and low quality, I don't think anyone disagrees, but it's not going anywhere for 2 reasons. 1 it's easy for the creator to churn out and 2 the viewers eat that shit up every time. It's rhe same reason everyone acknowledges animal cruelty is bad but also don't become vegans. They don't actually give a fuck. Is react content garbage? Yes. Would I be mad if my oshi did it? Maybe. Would I begrudge them doing it? No.
