2D or 3D? I don't know which is more popular, or if you need 2D for the 'genuine' VTuber experience, but something like VRoid Studio seems a lot less finicky and grindy than something like Live2D, as well as having a greater proportion of free software.

You'll see them constantly hitting each other despite their mocap rigs clearly capturing their arms properly.

Depends. What are you planning on doing as an agency to make people want to work for you?

I'm assuming you have no agency now, so no followers. You'll need to offer a decent incentive to get people to join in the first place.

No idea on the costs of setting up a business or anything like that, or for lawyers to draw up contracts, or anything else in the backend.

But let's say you approach a nearly-taking-off vtuber. What can you offer them, to work for you?

Let's say you pay your talent minimum wage. If they could expect a 40hr week, every week, then that's around $15k in another position, so we'll use that as a baseline for them wanting to work for you, instead of doing another job. You'll probably want a team of three or four to begin with, so 60k; and that's just the streamers. You'll need a clipper, editor, and at least one back-up techie.

And how are you handling the money? 20% of bits, subs, donos? 50%? 75% until you hit 18k, then 15%?

OTOH, I'd sign up with an agency that expected 5 streams a week if they offered to do all the clipping, editing, promoting, and other post-prod; even if they didn't pay me.

I've no idea what sort of income the top-income chuubas get, but you're going to need to have something.

you're going to need art and rigging of at least 3-5 high quality characters, which could run you up to 5-6k USD each

I finally had the courage to post on /asp/ yesterday and now I want to help/ease the worry of people auditioning for any big company. There's too many people acting like this is a job interview when really, it's an audition.

What I'm going to say is from experience and speculation from auditioning in the idol industry and from my friends in the entertainment industry. Of course, the VTubing industry is new and different so take what I say with a grain of salt.

- Your self introduction should be 15 sec. MAX, and even that is pushing it. Self introductions should be for introducing your name (and quickly list all the skills you’re going to show them in the video).
DO: I can sing, draw, and speak Japanese
DON’T: I like to sing. I’ve been singing since I was 5 years old. My favorite thing to sing is anison. I first started drawing in middle school because I wanted to be a mangaka and now I like to draw for fun. My favorite thing to draw is…..

- Video applications tell a lot about you.
Your voice, personality, ability to listen to instructions, editing skills, etc.
And this is what leads me to believe that the video is seen before the written application. Because why waste 30sec reading an application when it takes 3 seconds to get turned off by the voice of the auditionee?
There too many instances where I watch someone's audition video and within the first 5 sec. I tab out because the lack of charisma, mic quality is bad and they’re complaining about it, it's a long unedited streaming clip with no introduction in the beginning.

- You want to have more than 1 skill, doesn't matter what it is, as long as you can stream it. Companies don't like one trick ponies. You can be really good at gaming but are you able to have entertaining conversations while you game without having to constantly pause to focus on your game? Remember, charisma is a skill too.

- Show all your skills with confidence. Being humble won't help you. You can be bad at something and poke fun at it, but no one wants to hear “I’ve been drawing for 10 years. But I’m not really good at it. But here it is anyway.” It just makes me think, “why are you showing this to me if you hate it so much?"
Every skill you have = more content

-Display your skills in order of length it takes to show them (shortest to longest) Don't have a 2 min clip of you singing and then a 10 sec clip of you doing something else. Because even if they loved your singing, they are going to assume the rest of your video is singing the whole song.

-On that note, don’t take more than 1 minute to display a skill.
I’ve been to many auditions where people would pass the first round after only singing for 15-20 seconds. If you sound good in the first 20 sec, of course you are going to sound good for the rest of the song. So show off your next skill.
This translates to streaming a game too. If the first 30 sec is good/bad, they are going to assume the next 3 minutes will be the same.

-Your first 1-2 views might not be a whole 5 minutes and that's ok!
If it were me going through 100s of applications on a time crunch, I probably wouldn't watch the whole video of someone I was interested in but wasn't 100% sure I wanted them to go to the next round. I'd save it for later when i have more time to review it. (kind of confirmed bc PRISM did this with my audition video)

I hope this helped! And don’t feel bad if you don’t make it. You could be doing everything right but you don’t fit the character they are looking for for that specific audition.
Again, this is just speculation based on experience in a different but somewhat similar industry. And I hope this helps with anyone still working on on their audition video. (I can’t help much with the written portion)

Good luck with your auditions, everyone! If you have any questions or need clarification, I’ll be lurking the thread until the female Nijisanji audition deadline is over.

Honestly, I was typing so much in the heat of the moment that I didn't explain this point too well. You can take more than a minute to display a skill. But let's say your skills are: gaming, singing, speaking Japanese
And you decide to make your video: 2 min gaming -> 2.5 min singing -> 30 sec speaking Japanese
They most likely won't fast forward through your whole video to find every skill you have to display (time restraints). So if they like your gaming, they ff 30 sec into video and you're still gaming, they might think the whole video is of gaming and nothing else. Or they make it to the singing portion but bc the clip was so long, they might assume you're singing a full song. And after 20+ sec of hearing your voice, they have a feel of your voice and don't need to finish the rest of the video, thus missing out on your last skill.
So the logical sequence for you video should have been speaking Japanese first bc it's the fast skill to show off then gaming or singing.

Of course, there is not correct formula and it's all based on how the interviewer is feeling at the moment. So use your best judgment in sequencing your skills and how long you want to highlight it.

The point is to get them to see all the skills you have to offer before they get bored and click out. So it's ok if you only have 2 skills to show.
Also, roleplaying is a skill!

>>5836766
Honestly, this is just advice that may/may not help your application so don't dwell on it if you did none of these. At the end of the day, it all dwindles down to how well you did in your audition video. Good luck on your audition, anon!

>>5840079
I completely agree! Take whatever advice that applies to you. As I mentioned, this is my experience/speculation in the idol industry so some audition practices will be similar while others might not apply.

>>5845124
I actually introduced myself as myself before roleplaying. It was a really brief 10 sec introduction but I wanted to show the variety in my voice from normal voice to roleplaying voice.

The application is vague enough to do and interpret it however you want to show your individuality. So don't worry! And good luck to both of us!

Ignoring individual mic choices for now, set up filters for your audio. Gain and compression can help you get to an audio level that's understandable without peaking nor being too quiet in your speaking (some people might enounce their words awkwardly). Gates are used to shut out any additional sound from your background provided there is a definite different in volume level between your voice and the background sounds (such as a fan or AC, gain settings can help with this even if it might make it worse initially just need to find what works for you). Side chain compression (aka ducking) can help your voice stand out if you're the type to play music on stream, as any time your input (voice channel) is active the output channel (whatever your music is playing from) will 'duck' in volume.
