So here's a question: how do I consume v-tubers during college?
When I was working at an office during my gap year, shit got extended due to Covid. Ended up working an extra half of a year. I didn't watch V-Tubers or learn much Japanese. Didn't have the time. But with an unplanned half a year with no real purpose I was able to consume copious amounts and let my mind not stray from thinking about Japanese and V-Tubers.
So how do you fully functioning members of society do it? I'd like to know so I can continue learning Japanese without it hampering my studies.

Does it help you study? Hamper? Please give your general thoughts, they are valuable to me.

I don't think vtubers are really an effective way of learning Japanese, although that's why I got into them too. When they talk about the game, it's usually way too easy. When they talk about something else, there's usually zero context for what they are talking about.
You're better off watching shows, studying, and most importantly, reading.

Well first you'd need to find them, covertly kill them and then cook them as consuming raw human flesh probably isn't all the pleasant. College students are impressionable and sociable enough so it shouldn't be too difficult.

Just watch streams of the games you're interested in watching, and rely on clippers to catch the "good" moments in other streams.

singing streams or ASMR streams are good as background noise while working
gaming streams not so much because I tend to focus less

I'm doing community college. I helped my family get their shit together during my two years and now we have a lot of funds we previously lacked, as well as a much stronger respect for each other.
We went from declining middle class to upper class.

College is nice but too much money, nonetheless it isn't a waste if you can afford it.

This, though it's better off if you know what you're getting into. A lot of people I know took up college just to get a degree, and they usually find out what they actually want to do after a year or two working low wageslave jobs. Certification training courses are the best way to go if college is too expensive.

No, I helped my mom with her anxiety and got her into working again. The enjoyment she gets from knowing it's her money as much as my fathers, though she actually makes more now -- it was massive in helping her figure out her mental issues and patch up my parent's marriage.
I don't think I was the only reason it's worked out but if I just bummed off to college I think it'd not be nearly as nice as it is now.

But enough about me, I just want to know how to watch V-Tubers while studying.

I honestly don't know man during my first semester away from home the first three months of HoloEN and the threads took up a ton of my time (plus apathy + college is a bitch), if not for classes being online and quizlet my GPA would have taken a gut punch. I'd advise settling on your oshi, one that has favorable times for you to watch. For me Pomu usually streams around 8-9pm my time so my plan is to focus and go to my classes, do HW, study and get a decent amount of work done so by the time she streams I can't watch and shitpost on the Niji EN thread guilt free. ofc this will take discipline and it will hurt to miss out on other chubba's streams you like, but remember that your oshi as well as the other chubbas you watch want you to do your reps and be successful as well so its a sacrifice worth making. if you really want to maybe use weekends to catch up

You chose to blow your free time watching VTubers instead of focusing on actually learning Japanese and now that you have to add studying to the mix you want to attempt all three earnestly?

You fucking blew it dude.

Gonna add on what this guy said >>5780917
If you want to be a fully functioning member of society but you won't put in the work to be fully functioning, it's not gonna fucking happen. There's no secret trick here to learn. Just make it work.

Make friends with hardcore fans in discord server and have them spoonfeed you important info or anything you want to know. Don't try to be a DD. I got 2 oshis along with house chores, college, and other hobbies, and I'm lacking on sleep and social relationship. Take care of yourself 1st and foremost, your oshi wants you to and she'll be there when you're finally free. Live, hiatus, or graduated. It's all archived.

I've often wondered if people who try to learn Japanese by watching vtubers will end up sounding like prancing faggots because they've been watching only cutesy virtual anime girls and Japanese has a lot of subtle male/female divisions in how language is used.

I do it as a last resort if I feel like I've had a shitty day or whatever else. I may not learn as much but I pick up on words and end up looking things up; it definitely helps me feel accomplished and like i'm making progress.

I don't know if it's all the isolation or what but my brain is better and worse than it was pre Covid. Back when I was reading in highschool I'd oft forget details in books and the like -- but now I remember an amount which surprises me. I even remember details from books I long dismissed as having forgotten a good amount of. It's like somebody has gone into a disorganized cluttery library filled with fog and tidied it up.
As such whenever I'm learning Japanese, no matter how little it is, it's been really sticking. I don't struggle with understanding grammar much.

I think my brain has been stress tested and the focusing of mental work I like has become much more powerful.
