I graduated 2 years ago (from a predominantly white and asian school) and anime is pretty mainstream. You'll have teachers talking to normies about Attack on Titan and the kids that go out to parties and fuck every night loudly arguing about Naruto power levels.
Vtubers are still too much. There were a handful of kids open about about watching Gura or Marine or whatever and people (even those with high power levels) mocked them relentlessly and said they should kill themselves.
The culture will probably change in 6-7 years when the 10 year old chumbuds grow up and talk about vtubers nostalgically like people do minecraft youtubers now.
