I think in light of recent developments it has become a pressing issue to figure out how to successfully combine Japanese and English into one stream/one career.
At the heart of this is that Japanese and English speakers inherently don't have a lot of overlap so by speaking either language you're always going to attract mostly people that can't speak the other. So if you switch to the other, most of the previous viewers won't understand you.
Any ideas on solving this issue if the goal is to appeal to both the Japanese and the international market in the long term?

Henya has been doing it since forever and she's very good. She speaks almost every sentence in both JP and EN, without getting on the nerves of the others, and thus can retain both audiences.
Kotoka tried doing it for a bit, but I believe she lacked the necessary autism to do it consistently, and before long was sabotaged by Niji's horrible company culture anyways (such as flirting with homos).
Nazuna tried doing something interesting, probably spurred by Kson: have a dedicated EN live translator in chat, whose messages would be displayed as hard subtitles in the stream. I think it worked pretty well.
I'm bilingual and I like bilingual streamers, so I prefer Henya's approach, but both avenues are promising IMO.

Yes they are all JP native speakers who studied in USA or AU. It seems to be the combination that works best to speak to both audiences. (See Haachama, even if her EN was very weak)

Yeah, I can understand why they did it. In the middle of the 19th century after the meiji restoration, Japan was just so far behind western powers in every regard and lacked so many words for things or concepts they never had in isolation. So among the rapid modernization they had no time to naturally develop their own words for countless of western things that are absolute standard, making them just literally take over mostly English words jammed into the Katakana framework with their own pronunciation so that Japanese people could instantly pronounce the words without having to learn any foreign language.
This was a great strategy back then and didn't matter because almost no one except diplomats learned a second language back then anyway, many people didn't even know how to read at all. So it doesn't lead to any complications.
However, over a century later, and the situation is quite different. Suddenly even third world shitholes have kids learning sufficient englishto hold some conversations, while the hyper advanced Japanese society is still on the state of the 19th century in that regard.
They need to actually get their shit together especially in light of their major demographics issue. This level of english knowledge is just not befitting the third greatest economy in the world.

Between ex European colonies and Chinese diaspora enclaves, a large part of SEA speaks 2 or more languages, including such diverse ones as EN and ZH.

Traditional thinking has said that it is impossible. But I think twins are a game changer because it means you can stream more which means it's actually possible to appease both audiences. Plus with a Twin you can even pay more attention to chat and flip between languages as needed while your twin keeps the flashy lights on screen jumping around

literally every language does this with tons of loan words from mostly french and english for modern words, it isn't special to japanese. this isn't the enlightened and cultured take your EOP ass thinks it is
