Reine, Kiara, Subaru HoloTori was fun. Lui fits in personality-wise, but her music direction/taste and voice doesn't really conform with the J-pop that the original trio is locked into. Mumei doesn't fit at all, she's much better paired with Bae, Gura, and/or Kronii over HoloTori. UmiSea is an anomaly, 4 talented singers and Ina who is decent, yet every song they make is mediocre

Home-grown vs corporate made. The issue with Holotori is that Kiara did want to keep it tp the three, but fans are too autistic to understand that and constantly mentioned Mumei. Optics are important so they let her in and Lui just helped to make it 5 so there could be a center for dance numbers. Just look at the group song for Lui's 3d and see how well it works to showcase 1 member at a time with the others flagging evenly to the left and right.
It's also why Kiara was very 'Nerissa, you're a sub for the group' when she joined, dispite Nerissa being the biggest Kiara clit-licker in Hololive. If they would have been at 4 when she joined, Kiara would have rushed to have her officially join the group to balance it out.

Holotori happened because Kiara got along well with Subaru when she lived in Japan, and the duck meme was going hard, plus Reine had just debuted as the only other bird. Luckily the two of them played into it a bit when fans were really receptive to the Goose Game stream and they ended up hitting it off behind the scenes. It got us some real Kino streams with the vacation.

They're both non-groups. Neither formed naturally, and neither group actually interacts outside of streams. The only difference between them is Holotori was pushed purely out of the chicken's autism, whereas Umisea is a soulless cash grab from management.
