For me personally, Shiori’s debut was characterized by a polarity of soaring highs and crushing lows. I was particularly drawn to her model pre-debut and got caught up in the pre-debut frenzy for a bit of fun knowing that she probably wouldn’t be anything close to what was being speculated, but even then her debut was still a major surprise. Her clearly ESL voice and somewhat nervous delivery certainly defied popular expectations pre-debut, but ultimately it didn’t surprise me much knowing how nuts people went pre-debut. In contrast, her introductory topics and interests did give me quite the shock. The interests and planned content she presented were unconventional and very niche to put it nicely. I found myself indifferent to most of it initially and, since I particularly enjoy gaming content, I was also markedly disappointed in her seeming lack of interest in video games compared to her other interests. However, Shiori’s background in and stated intent to make edited/video content kept me on board since such content is starkly unique in Hololive and is something I had always been hoping to see from a Holomem. I’m well aware that sort of content is very difficult to output in Hololive given Cover’s well known brand of perms autism, but I still hoped that the skillset and experience that Shiori was bringing could also transfer to the more typical content the was going to be putting out as a member of Hololive. Given hindsight, I’m starting to believe that her debut in particular was focused less on what she would be doing in the future but rather how she was going to be doing things given the style of her subsequent streams.

Since I had played a somewhat significant part in the pre-debut sex mania, I have felt obligated to a degree to become invested in Shiori and see how she does post-debut. Yet, I still feel a little disappointed, all things considered. It has quickly become apparent that Shiori’s main content and strength thus far are zatsudans, but for me at least, they have been a double edged sword. I really quite enjoyed her talk on vtuber history and her microscope stream since they were about topics of interest to me, but the rambling delivery style ultimately limits my enjoyment and makes me rather disinterested in the other topics she inevitably tangents into that I just can’t really get into. If she had something particularly insightful, critical, revelatory to say during these ramblings, then I might’ve gelled with them more. Furthermore, she could have added some more production value, as hinted at in the debut, to add to what she was saying for a greater affect. But so far, she seems to be going for a more uninhibited, stream of consciousness style of delivery that makes it hard to follow at times. To be fair, I think she is already on track to elevate her style by focusing on specific topics in some cases and utilizing streaming assets like few in Hololive could, but it still leaves me wanting for more. I was hoping to see her content be more refined in the weeks following debut, but it seems I will have to wait to see if that hope turns into cope. Moreover, this sort of development might be intentional. After having watched 7 debuts so far and picking up on what has been said by other Holomem and 1 homo in particular, I’m thinking that Shiori is holding back. At first it confused me as to why Shiori would divulge so much about her videography skills and also to explicitly state that such skills would be used to produce content in the future, but then proceed into the first 2 weeks post-debut with nothing of the sort to show for especially given the long span of time she had to prepare, pre-debut. That was until she started to hard GFE bait, then I realized what she might be trying to do. If she had gone all out for the debut, she could have set up expectations and precedents that she just could not keep up with, like early Amelia. Instead, she held back on content and instead hyper focused on chat interaction. If she could gain that sort of audience that is mostly there for parasociality, then the expectations on her would be lowered and she can release her more refined content later as a pleasant surprise or sign of growth rather than to trying to maintain the status quo or one up what she might’ve been able to accomplish early on.

As it stands now, it appears that Shiori is attempting to become the next Rushia in her time in Hololive and admittedly, that disappoints me. It perplexes me that she even wants to go that route. She’s most certainly been in and around the vtubing sphere long enough to see what happened to Rushia and the risks going down that avenue and yet that still seems to be the course she wants to set sail in. It perplexes me, but maybe, she’ll be just crazy enough to pull it off, who knows. What really dampens my optimism is her potential with videography. In my opinion, her skillsets and intent to utilize them are what set her apart in Hololive and among vtubers in general these days. I was so excited to see how her potential could blossom in that aspect, but for now, it would appear that such matters are not a priority for Shiori. Maybe she’ll release something cool in the future, but given her current course trajectory, those prospects are likely to be slim as those who chase GFE rarely appreciate it when their oshi takes time off from them to work on greater projects.

I never was diagnosed with ADHD or took anything for it, but was on a bunch of antidepressants since I've been consistently miserable and always struggled to really be interested in anything. The only antidepressant that actually helped was one that apparently is also used as an off label ADHD treatment. It also gave me panic attacks though so my doctor pulled me off of it after a few months and I've been back to being really unfocused and whatnot since. 2ish hours is the absolute max I can really do something unless I'm really invested in it.
