Phase tourist here, All I know of /asp/ is that I would see this general pop up alot back when /vt/ first opened.

For longtime /asp/ies who have been here since the start, how do feel about the current industry compared to 2 years ago? Is it easier or harder to get your feet of the ground compared to back then?
Got respect for you guys, I've always wanted to get into vtubing myself, but more with behind the scenes stuff, like being a clip editor or helping out with projects for a vtubers channel.

I've managed to break it down into a few components:
>Shrillness
Especially American accents tend to be really shrill and grating on the ears, try to soften how you speak.
>Speech slurring
Lots of people blend their words together and do not enunciate. Problematic especially on th, sh and f sounds.
>Vocal fry
Speaking with a croakiness that makes you sound like you're bored and uninterested.
>Dynamic range
Speaking continually monotone even when trying to express excitement. This is probably due to not wanting to disturb roommates or neighbours, but it makes it really unengaging and boring. Try to project yourself properly by speaking from your chest, not your throat. Also do vocal exercises by changing pitch by moving your voice from the lower part of your throat to the upper most part you can achieve.

Just taking forever to say anything.

Sounding like you're streaming from inside your bathroom
>Lacking richness
This ties in a little with dyanmic range and is probably mostly down to mic settings, but most of the voices feel really distant and FEEL like your speaking into a microphone rather than to me, the viewer.

personal notes:
- I've always been monotone, I'm pretending like it's a charm point I don't want these streams to suddendly spike in volume, but I should probably vary in enunciation to make it more interesting to listen to. It's a work in progress (this is a lie)
- accent kind of hinders me to this day I've mostly accepted it
- my grammar skills in english are terrible, the things i say are just low level which is unfortunate, i'm not planning to read books though.
- these two videos are sort of different in speaking style, i tend to have a brighter voice when i talk faster and have things to say. I usually slow down a lot when i'm speaking to myself (as i often do for 2-3 hours) I don't know which one is better.

I've only done a couple. Shorts will very quickly blow up and get hundreds of views and immediately stagnate, unless you're REALLY pumping them out frequently or have a good hook. I haven't really figured out yet how to make shorts that mesh with the type of content I make. Not to mention I feel like they're much harder to edit

I've been doing clips edited into shorts for a while and I'm more-or-less happy with what I get from it. Certain games of mine have much more reach which gives me a nice big number, but even the ones that don't I feel proud of by doing goofy or fun edits.

Honestly none of them, but I think that's just the nature of streamers with small audiences. Their streams are more personal and just feel way different without a large audience, and almost all aspies play into that personal feeling quite a bit.

That being said maybe Beryl is the closest. His is a very polished and consistent eexperience. Also his model voice and personality all match quite well which is pretty rare for aspies for whatever reason.

His branding is pretty strong. Lots of consistently designed and high quality art and assets. His model is well made and like I said the design fits him and his voice well. Basically it feels like a good amount of money has been dumped into his stream, which you could argue whether it's worth the money or not if you want, but it certainly makes him feel more like a corpo vtuber.

Other than that his "character" is very consistent. I don't know how much of his voice or demeanor is an act but he stays very true to it from what I have seen, which really adds to him seeming like a corpo.

You have to do some investigating. Look at how much work they've done in the past, the more work they've done, the more reliable they'll likely be. Read some of their tweets and see if they advertise or showcase their work often. And most importantly, don't comm anyone that does call out posts, posts where they demand certain behavior from their clients, or does that artist virtue signalling "woe is me" garbage.
tl;dr find someone who is running their comms like a proper business. Also, artists from Asian countries are easier to work with in my experience.
