For me itt's the same as Skyrim. The story is ass and it either dumbs down mechanics from previous games or adds new ones that are kind of meh, but as a big open world to explore and fuck around in, it's pretty fun.
Never liked the shooting, though. Going melee and punching/cutting/hitting shit to death is way more entertaining (and also saves you from having to bother with ammo).

1, 2, and New Vegas are the "good" ones. 3 and 4 are a big step down, mainly due to Bethesda writing them, but are still ok if you just want an adventure you shouldn't think too hard about.
