My honest answer is the completely toned down internet experience from a few years back.

People are too afraid about being anything other than "pure entertainment" when anything slightly off the grid and you can get hate bombed.

So to see a streamer crack jokes that aren't even considered dark or edgy by 4chans standard, for others its a shock.

That and VTuber chats are so fucking boring. As you said they all repeat the same shit and I can only imagine how pissed off I'd be whenever I scratch my leg, tell chat you had an itchy leg only to see dozens of them screaming YAB YAB YAB YABAI LEWD LEWD

My favorite thing is when a VTuber makes an obvious joke and chat is so retarded they think it's fact, so they have to tardwrangle and tell chat to stfu and that it was just a joke.
