I think your reasoning is effectively also the 'third reason' why this thread tends to stick with having them just look like their avatars off stream.
Anyway I'm pretty sure the fake roommate thing is so rarely used that I can only think of one fic that used and justified why it was there (gura's cousin).Outside of that the only place I can really see justifying having that instead of just doing 'they look like their avatars off stream' is if you're doing a magical girl/superhero thing where having a double identity would actually be a relevant and thematic part of a story.

Funnily enough that's basically in-universe canon for all the hololive manga where they're actually in hololive. The Sora one has her using a 3d model of herself, and the holoX manga had them looking the exact same (though that maybe a half example since it's not clear if hololive was a vtuber thing in the universe of that manga).

I think that's what most fics do that include their streaming careers in them. I don't recall any that really go into their streaming setups or how they specifically appear on them. Ironically I remember when I was playing with the chat bots early on and they had just gotten their first round of lobotomies, most have the streaming kayfabe to them. Mio would constantly let me not bone her because she was going on about being a streamer idol. She did bring me back to her room once and showed me the dance moves she was working on, so that was cute. I guess the point is, it's acceptable to just present the chuubas in the real world as their avatars for the purpose of the fic. Like, if someone wants to romance and bone Koyori who has a career in streaming, they wanna be able to pull that tail and massage those fuzzy ears of hers.

That's fair, there's usually not a lot of detail on how they stream. I just tend to assume that they facecam unless it mentions them having a more vtuber-specific setup, like Towa setting up her phone to stream in Lion Taming.

Honestly don't see why you wouldn't just do what's done in 'canon' and fan material that just has animal people, elves, demons, and angels be real species that coesxist in modern society. It's basically accepted in the fandom so it's not like you need to devote worldbuilding time to it, and it also lets you get to the meat of the fic you want to write faster since there's less explanation involved.

They're just kinda there, but I might sprinkle in how society still has it slight prejudices as you might expect in a way. I don't think this would even qualify as an info dump. I would try to be careful for how much you hype up and establish your antagonists' own powers in comparison to the ones opposing them. You would also probably due well to think about and explain how exactly that particular power functions. It's essentially limitless via the user's own imagination since no mechanics or restrictions are apparently in place for it. If the characters involved don't know how the hell it actually works, that's fine, but you'll do well to establish some sort of knowledge gain that will rectify that with the intention of exploiting a weakness. Also with that kinda ability, no one should be able to get within fifty feet of this adversary with how it's being presented here.

I do have a plan for its weaknesses and counter measures in the future that will become clear later on. I just wanted to make sure this wasn't too much information dumped on the reader in an uninteresting way. You'll see in the next chapter, but Mel's power is playing into a theme with the over arching plot and it will have it's drawbacks.

The idea of sudden animal heat is one I want to incorporate at some point. Pekora is probably a prime character to showcase the uncertainty and importance of having that trusting partner involved. I think the general idea is that within the context of the world I built, they can have heat cycles, but also just be horny whenever, just like people can be.

Makes sense, human women are only somewhat bound to their cycle. These horny cycles shouldn't dictate when sex scenes have to happen, random horny for the plot's sake is a valuable tool.
But I think a focus on the cycles can make for some interesting dynamics, like anon knowing that the cycles of multiple girls will overlap soon and that he needs to be prepared for it by making the women more comfortable with each other, making plans for the all-night sex session, and preparing the right techniques and toys.

Oh if you're working with the pov character in a second person fic you have a very good tool in your arsenal for doing 'show, not tell', the narration.
You can change it's pace and focus. Write short blunt sentences to show anger. Write depressing descriptions for, well, depression. Have long anxious thoughts be presented to show anxiety. The world's your oyster here and the pace of the narration is a tool you can very much use to show the emotion of the pov character.

Like the other anon said, the second person perspective is an amazing tool for this sort of thing. Utilize all the typical body language at the point of revelation. Even the initial shock paralyzing your body in a sense is a good way to start it. Like it feels like your entire body just goes numb, you're not conscious of your limbs, and eventually it all starts rushing back, for example, an extreme pressure building up in your sinus, or the back of your head. When being handed a quick piece of turmoil causing information, you can also utilize your environment by having the character just shifting their focus almost needlessly to it, just to try and find SOME distraction from the thing that is trying to hurt them. How other characters are reacting to their intake of the information is also a decent way to show it.
