Chuuzers really are spoiled with how much fan interaction Nyaru does. Monthly maros, weekly gaming with fans, vrchat meet ups and meet and greets. It's a big part of why I love her so much and if something happens to her I don't see myself being able to go back to a chuuba who's more distant from her chat.

Maybe off topic, i know some vtubers dislike making AI voices of theirs and using them for music, but from what i've seen on the market, i feel like if i was not a particularly confident vtuber singing wise, listening to my own voice sing competently probably would give me confidence to work on improving my singing.

I think thats where my thoughts about it come from. AIragi sings the type of songs in a way that Koragi doesnt (as far as i am aware) so i guess it demonstrates the possibilities of her voice range beyond to what i'm used to hearing? Even though its slightly unnatural.
But what i mean is i would like my oshi to pick up singing and i think instead of making her feel demoralised, if properly presented to her it could inspire to pick up singing.

Same for my own voice. I think i'd start giving learning to sing an honest shot if i could be convinced its not a complete trash singing voice.

Seems you're struggling to find idols...
Honestly, the best idols/musicians are all JP chuubas at the moment. I have a few small Western indies I'm keeping an eye on, but things aren't looking great. I won't mention them unless they become more active.

If you want some to check out that are better known, I reccomend Prism Project which has a fantastic roster of singers and musicians, especially Shiki who is my personal favorite from them: https://youtube.com/@ShikiMiyoshino

In keeping with tradition, I'll give another piece of advice. When looking for a quality idol vtuber, a good check is to see what sorts of tangential topics they are interested in, like hobbies or music or what have you. The best ones are often very "weebcore", and the more knowledgable, the better idol you will find. Idols are also focused on self improvement as well, so that's good to keep an eye out for.
I see some recommendations here that I would warn you to steer clear of. I won't name names, because being an anti will only hurt my credibility here, so I'll let you use your brain and just remind you again to stay critical and observant.

It's actually in conjunction with Oshi no Kou and Offkai happening, as well as the EN Holofes event Connect the World. There was a spike in interest internationally regarding idols, and vtubers being what they are and close to the flame anyways, naturally got caught up in that fervor.
For many, it's likely just a fad they will quickly lose interest in. It is likely that it has very little or nothing to do with this thread.
Even prior to that though, I noticed trends from certain corpos toward more music production, which hopefully continues.

I've been watching chuubas since Kizuna, and been in the Western scene before it blew up with HoloMyth... I get dreamy too, and I love idols and vtubers, but I've seen enough to be skeptical as well.
The dreams are fun, but the reality of idols is that it's about guts and hard work, and not everyone is gonna make it. It's a long road to the mountaintop.
I just feel if you want to do well, you have to pay attention and be realistic, and bust your ass. That goes for vtubers as well as their fans, seen both fall by the wayside over the years.
But it's fun, and I've made a lot of friends, so it's all worked out. If you're at least having fun, making connections, and living without regrets, I think that's the best outcome.

On one hand, more exposure, more potential fans and viewers, etc. On the other, normalfags and ironic weebs don't really care about culture, and either deride whatever they don't like or overrun other people.
I'm not sure what reactions you may have seen, but the anime was a big hit, and for better or worse got a lot of people interested in idols, even in vtubing. You might be surprised at how few vtuber fans are actually interested or knowledgeable about the idol aspect of the medium, or even anime at large.
It is what it is. Most likely their interest will wane with the next sensation.

Hate to say it anon, but vtubers will probably only get more popular in the future. There are a number of reasons for this, but it's pretty likely that their mass appeal will only grow.
That's part of why it's so important to gatekeep and teach newfags the what's what.
On the bright side, I expect more and more chuubas will graduate. I also predict that the stagnation of Western corpos will only get worse, which will be a great thing for market competitors, so there is always hope! I genuinely think things will be good.
There are some exciting things on the horizon, keep your eyes peeled...
