Nap time edition

What is /asp/?
/asp/ is a thread for vtubers to give and receive advice related to vtubing.

>Should I stream on Twitch or YouTube?
Most people would recommend against streaming on YouTube if you don't have an established subscriber base from making videos.

>Is there an audience for X?
Would you watch someone do X?
Is someone already doing X?

>What video editor should I use for editing clips?
DaVinci Resolve if you don't feel like spending money, otherwise use Adobe Premiere Pro.

isn't cajon litterally meant for a musician playing another instrument to keep their own beat?
No, cajons generally require two free hands, unless you're tricking it out and playing it with a bass drum pedal and adding cymbals/hi hats to your setup while using the cajon as the bass and snare drums.

NTA. There is a niche for that kind of content, but its going to be very hard to build up an audience doing it. Streaming on dead/obscure categories like that is just a bad way to grow a channel.

Your best bet with that route might be making edited videos on YouTube. Youtube is probably better for very niche content like that, however I understand how unappealing making videos is for somebody who wants to be a streamer.

Will people watch it? Sure - hell I'd probably check it out.
But being completely honest - I imagine it'll be hard to grow at first without really advertising on other platforms or getting yourself out there because that is a niche within a niche.
The biggest thing that'll decide it is your personally and your skill, and the word "kinda" isn't doing you any favors on the latter part.

Look at Twitch categories and see how many people follow them. When I say niche I mean like your Dwarf Fortresses, where they'll latch onto any new player and hand hold them and have a strong community - not your 1994 Japan-only McDonald's promotional SNES games where like one dude in Little Rock Arkansas is really into it and if he's not around you're SOL.
Again though, this is advice for growing solely on Twitch through its discoverability, and if you have an inkling of an audience or can properly advertise elsewhere first, then do whatever you want.

>> No.53762321

I just checked have many viewers are watching it right now and it’s not 13. The game I like streaming has 15, so I’m guessing that’s not ideal game for growing my audience.

>> No.53762405

>>53761939
A decent way to judge a game's potential popularity is by looking at how many people are following the category on Twitch. But be careful with older games, sometimes they have built up fairly large followings but all interest in it kind of died out years ago.

You can also look at the category analysis in sullygnome.com and twitchtracker.com. But be careful here as well. For more niche games almost all viewers are being brought in by bigger streamers, its rare that the category itself provides any level of viewers itself.

I think the other way you could possibly go about this is by promoting your streams on enthusiast discords and forums devoted to these specific genres and games in particular. Its kind of hard and awkward work (and you might feel just a bit scummy promoting yourself like this), but the few times I did it there was a much better turn out to these kind of niche games. I feel like these communities who are very devoted to niche games are quite willing to watch decent streamers play their games, but their games are so rarely streamed that they don't ever bother checking twitch for streamers. Anyhow, I have had pretty good results doing this the few times I have bothered to.

The basic idea is to be a cute blond shota (like Mitsukuni from Ouran) in a school uniform wrapped up in a futon 'cause he's a hikkiNEET who's just online all day. The futon will have a design with cakes and stuff on it. Maybe the futon will mostly just be like a blanket around my shoulders so it doesn't obscure too much body.

I know it's probably not recommended but in my ideal world I think I would have a more variety-esque kind of channel with gaming, reading JP/CN content (decent in both languages), answering viewer Qs, idk, I'd like to come up with more ideas. She easily could be. Unfortunately its kind of been the culture of twitch that reaction content that absolutely is offending and should be taken down is ignored for whatever reason. Theres a lot of reasons for this (including twitch making it hard for creators to even find out their work is even being exploited) but a large part of it is creators begin afraid that they will receive backlash if they try to assert their rights to what they made. The other problem is that many youtubers incorrectly believe that people reacting to their content will end up causing their videos to get more views in the long run, so they end up ignoring or even encouraging it.

If you want an almost exhaustive but good analysis of the entire problem check out this video here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Irk8h0ax5aY

It wouldn't really change that much. Other similar reaction streamers would immediately snap up those viewers and the problem would continue. Now if reaction channels were effectively banned in general? That would be disastrous for twitch, and probably barely affect non-reaction content. Pretty much everyone who comes to twitch to watch reaction content would instead just go to youtube/tiktok to watch the next best thing, the content itself. This is why twitch really doesn't want to address the problem.

If you’re a pngtuber your only saving grace is your personality, and until you debut, you can’t show off your personality to anyone. Now if you have a live2d model that would be a different story. People can get jazzed to see a vtuber with a nice live2d model. But fucking png? No one is going to give a shit about you. I can literally name 10 vtubers (some with hundreds of viewers) that started this way. You can start streaming right away sure, but you’ll be streaming with ZERO viewers. You can try to grow from there but it will be a monumental task. Instead you can spend a few months networking with other people. Go into their chats, talk to them on Twitter, support them on Discord (AKA MAKE FRIENDS) and then when you’re ready to stream you’ll be able to stream with your new friends who will SUPPORT YOU. They will retweet your posts for you, make your discord active, chat in your stream, and be your viewers that’ll make you more visible in categories. That’s the whole point of networking before streaming. Another benefit to doing a debut is you can make noise for yourself before streaming. Your friends will retweet your tweets for you giving more eyes on you (and this is also good for the twitch algo because their viewers will recommend their other viewers). You can mald and seethe about how much you think this is a bad idea but this is a literally basic marketing and a proven method to starting out streaming. >this dude is going to spend months ‘networking’ and planning his ‘debut’
The problem is you’re attempting to network as a totally unproven vtuber. You’re trying to convince people who already have a following to give your their cosign and shill you to their own viewers, all while you’re at a point where you have nothing to offer, no proof of concept that you’ll actually be an entertaining vtuber or that you’ll be worth collaborating with in the future. All for what? Because you liked a bunch of their tweets for a month? Maybe shower up to their streams and chatter a few times? You think that would be enough to earn you their cosign? You’re like those wannabe rappers that try to sell their mixtapes on the street to strangers. Why the fuck would I buy your mixtape when I haven’t heard a single one of your songs?

>> No.53791714

>>53791502
I think I see the real problem here. You’re taking this shit too seriously. You’re not here to “network”, “shill viewers”, or “offer” something… You’re trying to make friends (why is this so hard to grasp for the autists here?) Streamers aren’t robots, chatters aren’t robots, they’re people. Make friends with other streamers and their viewers and they will support you because they like you. >You’re trying to make friends
You generally don’t make friends with people way lower down the totem pole than yourself. How often in real life do you see super model looking Chads hanging out with their incel best friend? Almost never. Same goes with vtubers and networking. If you saw someone in your chat is a beginner vtuber with a cheap garbled up sounding mic and has a lot of dead air while he streams, are you really going to promote that person to your followers just because they were nice to you? What do you get out of it? His friendship? Why would you want to be his friend? What if you have 100 followers and 1/10 of them are beginner streamers like that guy? Are you going to support each one of them? What if you have 500 followers, and 1/10 of them are streamers? That’s 50 guys right there. Are you going to put in the effort to shill every single one of them? These are the people you want to network and collaborate with. They have their own followers and among them are aspiring streamers. You are the one out of ten followers they could network with, or one out of fifty. You have done absolutely zero streaming, and you think that these people will have the time of day for you and your debut? Post-debut you can network all you want, people will actually be able to tell if you’re worth the time because they’ve seen you stream. But pre-debut you have nothing.

maybe I worded my point wrong but there's "making it" and then there's making it. If all you care about is numbers then you'll always see yourself as a failure because there's always someone bigger. If you have a community you love, a community that loves you, that's actually making it. You can do that with four regulars or four thousand. There's a lot of large chuubas I could name for actually reaching that kind of success that matters far more than a purple checkmark or a protein powder sponsorship but Bat's the one the other anon used and I think she's a perfectly fine example of it.

Look up Dunbar’s number. He proposes one person can keep up 150 stable relationships within a given time at the most. I don’t mean 150 twitch followers, I mean 150 people total, your friends, your family, coworkers, neighbors, they all add up. If you want to maintain a stable relationship with these people, you can only do it with 150 of them at a time before it mentally exhausts you and you begin to neglect some of these people. That means these people you’re networking with are not your friends and they never will be your friends. You can consider them your friends, but odds are they have other people in their lives who are more important than you. They will never see you in the same way as you see them. Twitch networking is all business. You’re associates at best. You’d be a fool to think any of these people you network with are your friends.

network is just a tool to meet new people, to have more options, you can collab with people more easily if you know then first
it's not necesary for starting streaming as vtuber, but is good having people to play and do collabs
you're supposed to join a community, a group of people when all have something in common, and do collabs or whatever, it can be another streamer (being a regular in chat), a discord server (aspcord, gweencord or any discord server)
The point of networking is to meet new people, talk a little, spend some time and do thing together, like collabs (or projects, etc), make easy to connect each others
just imagine the contrary, a random person (who you don't know) DMs you and ask CAN WE BE FRIENDS? CAN WE DO A COLLAB?, that would be weird
you don't need to spend 11 months "planning" to become friends with certain people who meet "your criteria", no.. it's much more easy than that, it's like networking IRL
there's gonna be people you like, and people you don't like, and that's normal
and maybe, with time, you become friend with some, and that's normal too
Sometimes I feel so weird explaining basic human behavior here, I know this is 4chan but, do you guys have friends IRL? job? or a neighbor who is a friend?

people just underestimate how much luck there's involved in all of this and all that energy is better spent actually thinking about what value you provide on stream. all the networking is pointless if viewers that click your stream leave in 5 seconds because you chew into the microphone, or have nothing interesting to show.

KEK, may as well read the source code to how OBS works and Twitch TOS while you’re at it. yeah im sure that takes time to explain but I’ve yet to meet anyone who cares about shit like that. if you want a specific type of layout you can just google shit and copy paste code. i guess it helps to learn about the specifics but in what way is that supposed to make your ability to stream any better?
