Tried to get into Kizuna when she was new, but she was pretty much a Japanese-exclusive phenomenon, so I didn't get hooked.
Last summer, FBK scatman vid led to my YT home page being covered in Hololive content. Pekora got me, but after a while of being one of the LUCKY English comments floating in the sea of runes, I became a Kenzoku. Suisei and Marine are definitely excellent choices as well.

I play an MMO and my guild has its own discord server. One of my friends used to spam clips of vtubers every day. I remember for the whole of November he was spamming that Risu no nut november videos. And I hated it. He passed away because of covid. After that I wanted to see what made him like vtubers and I looked for some clips to watch and I found them to be entertaining.

Technically, I watched some Kizuna AI and Kaguya Luna videos that showed up in my recommendations occasionally, but I was never really heavily invested in them.
It wasn't until much later when somebody posted screenshots of Korone from her Tetris 99 endurance stream that something truly clicked. And now here I am watching a dog stream games I've never heard of in a language I don't currently understand. I still have the image from that fateful day.
