They're already in 3rd place*. Phase has Pippa, but their company's average # is pretty bad because they have a few very unpopular girls (who are good but nobody cares).
Idol's only a little less popular than the NijiEN girls. They might pass them. They "deserve" to because they're better, but that's not how shit works.
*It's hard to compare them to Vshojo, since Twitch and YouTube numbers aren't calculated the same way. Obviously Ironmouse is huge and Kson's doing fine. The rest are hard to judge.

I'm just an Endless newfag, but because of them, I've tried to watch up on some of E-Sekai. I generally like them. While I like clown and coon, Roca is the standout talent, and I can't get over that they have a Mori 2.0. Yuko is pretty creative and Pochi is cute as fuck. Overlap is hell

See, Hololive is at the top because they do something unique to the vtuber scene with the constant song releases, large scale tournaments, 3D lives and PPV concerts. They've estabilished themselves as the idols. Maybe not every HoloEN, but the vast majority of Hololive talents work towards something you can root for and share the excitement with them. Nijisanji is the next as Hololive's main apoointed rival, that distinction is already enough to put them in second place thanks to the enormous success of Hololive. Vshojo pandered to the coomers at first but now it's the Ironmouse show who has her circumstances painting her in a positive light.
But these smaller corpos, they come and go making the same bland content everywhere. It's not like they're the greatest entertainers, the best singers or even just the best at providing fap material or drama or a tearjerker setting, just an endless wave of vanilla content that lacks appeal. They all lack something that makes them stand out and I have zero interest in just sitting down watching them play vidya or do zatsu, a react stream or a tiermaker, every single day.

Some of the phase girls noticeably more talented as streamers/content creators, I watch mainly idol because my oshi is there but started watching Shiina recently and her streams are far more fleshed out with very engaging content and stories. For example when she shoots and reloads her gun in a game she has a whole animation png thing for it. I don't see much of the idol girls doing this type of stuff, they're just dumb girls being cute which is fine but there is a lot they can improve on. idol seems to have a large amount of cash being pumped into it so they aren't going to fall of the map any time soon

It's strange how none of the small corporations focus on maximizing their current talents. Kawaii is the exception, having both Idol outfits and 3D models, but that was part of a Kickstarter. Phase, Idol, and even Prism, among other small corporations, rarely talk about new outfits. And when they do, it's usually accompanied by statements like 'Yeah, I'm getting a new outfit/model update, but I had to pay for it out of pocket.' It just looks odd. Why does one girl have three different outfits while everyone else has only one? Oh, because she paid for them herself, and the CEO is unwilling to invest in new outfits for all the members, or at least the veteran ones.
Most of the small corporations seem more focused on churning out more vtubers rather than enhancing the quality of what they already have. This leads to bloated companies that overlap with each other, all playing the same tired FOTM games. It makes you wonder, what's the point? I guess it's to be able to confidently say, 'We always have at least one person live,' but that rarely happens. There are always dead hours at some point in the day. Take Phase for instance, I've seen people in America, Europe, and SEA complain about dead hours being a thing and Phase has 17 talents across the globe.
One of these corporations should prioritize developing their current members and striving to attract more viewers for them instead of just debuting new members. They could arrange for covers, design new outfits, host events, or have their members participate in existing ones. It's about building on what they already have and making it stronger instead of just filling your roster with more talents who stretch the viewerbase even thinner than it already is.
