I was referring more to the complexity of the character rather than the limitations of current models. Since rrat!Ayame per Our Cures kind of has layers of characterization that would be difficult to implement. Though who knows I've never messed with creating one of these before so maybe it would just be a matter of bot wrangling.

Here's the next part before we dive into the main conflict of this arc. I had a mighty need to make things extra fluffy before things get hectic so I stuffed this chapter full of it until the stitches were starting to come undone. This one is a doozy lengthwise, but I am happy with how the package looks, and how it made me feel writing it and reading it. This question isn't exclusive to vtubers, but I was wondering what drives you guys and how you organize it. I find the idea of autistically developing a large world using Hololive girls, has anyone here done anything on a similar scale? If so, how did you organize it?

I'm that guy above, and I'd be happy to share my experience and how I generally go about it.
As for what drives me, a log of hags and fantasy bullshit. I've always loved fantastic adventures, magic spells, and overcoming the odds with friendship and love. It charges me up like nothing else.
For the world itself, like all stories, your world needs a starting point. For the characters you want to introduce and work with, what kind of environment would be suited for the beginning of their story and what their initial motivations, personality traits, and even their past experiences. When I first started making HoloJourneys, I had an idea for what the initial world state would be like, and from there I started listing out potential governmental powers and countries. For Hololive girls, I try to focus on what their cultural background would be within the world and where/how that would fit in best.
Girls with either lore relating to being royalty, or outfits that present them as such, make it easy to give them their own kingdom: Lunahime is practically a free space. Pekora you take a few liberties thanks to her princess outfit, but through her content she gives a lot of lore for fun about Pekoland and how she rules it. Then you got chuubas who can be used to showcase a smaller culture within your world. Kaela is a good example of this, as you can easily plug her into a smaller and less advanced culture compared to others, that has its values heavily set in hard work and living off the land. She is a penguin though, so they might be living somewhere colder.
For organizing, there's kinda this notion of what the Anon and friends know of the world, and what you the writer know. I currently know what kingdoms and lands are coming up, but anon himself only knows what's in front of him and where he's been, so you almost end up connecting the dots together in a sense. Since I spend a lot of time writing about each area, they just kinda stick in my head. Also the content of your story itself helps shape the world you create. Some things kinda end up appearing and falling into place.

For me, I'm more about making the setting secondary to the story. Basically I make shit up as I go along, with whatever worldbuilding I do being relevant to the main plot or character in some way. To make the stuff feel "real", I do research after writing, then edit as necessary.
I also have a sort of lorebook where I put side materials like songs, interviews, or speeches from the setting. I also make all of that stuff up as I go along. Whatever tidbit that comes to me that isn't central to the plot goes into the lorebook

I don't really do much worldbuilding for the fics I've made here outside of thinking up cool details to try and fit together in the fic. Still it's fun and helps me write out the story by giving more to the world it takes place in.
Anyway, you're welcome to do your worldbuilding and idea making here. While /vtwbg/ (now /log/) is ostensibly the place for it by my count there's like 4-5 writers still left there max, and they're barely holding on together.

I think it's a waste of creative output at the early stages of a project, and I've seen people get caught in outlines and lose all motivation by the time they get to page one.

Looking back at my initial outline notes, I honestly can't remember if I really did seven chapters worth of notes before starting, or if I did the second half of that after the first couple chapters. My outlines back then were also basically short handed full scenes. I want to say I did this before starting the first arc, which might be a sweet spot to do your initial planning up to. I do agree that you shouldn't let yourself get lost in the forecasting before you actually start to write.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I’m primarily using this as a way to lift me out of a depressive rut as well as home my writing skills more. I love vtubers and I’ve always had a lot of fun thinking about how their relationships and cultures would vary if it was more of a literal world instead of just streaming over the internet. In a couple years I’m going to fund a game studio to develop a game I’ve wanted to make for years, but I still have a lot of writing to do before that even begins shaping up. I’m thinking I start with an interest that is already well off the ground such as vtubing.

A question for you I suppose is how do you outline, if at all? When I write, it’s usually spur of the moment because I was inspired by something else. Themes, dynamics, developments, I try to see how I can make an original setting and works around it. But it has literally no structure at all. Is this a bad habit to make? Maybe I should be more organized.

Personally, for me a scene is hard to conjure from key points. I tend to just go where the dialogue or the characters lead to, one line after the other. Being too deliberate means my transitions becime stilted.

That's true. And revealing this information is good, but most fantasy writers blow their historical load all over the first page, because they've already conjured up all of the machinations. Whereas I tend to prefer things to be revealed through context clues or how people behave.
Then again, I'm not a fan of the fantasy genre. The fantasy I have written, I kept the lore small scale with most of the attention being given to the scenic portrayals of culture, rather than the political or historical side of things.

Still, for me as someone that's mostly written stories on the shorter side my outlining process is making a planning document with the details and stuff I want to have in the fic alongside ideas I have for the fic. Well I can't speak for how well it works for others, but writing has proven to be a great and fulfilling hobby for me, so I hope it gives you some joy and helps you work through what you got going on. Always remember too, if you keep writing and take the feedback to get to heart, you'll get better every time.
Now onto your outline question. Initially my outlines were basically scenes and interactions without any of the details or flowering. I have like, full conversations written in the outlines for the first arc, it was that level of detail in them, but that was also at a time where I hadn't actually put anything officially on paper yet. After I did that and wrote the first arc, my outlining formatting changed to get closer to what it is today. Now I got a big text file that has things like general scenes and ideas I want to make in the next chapter, and sometimes I'll flesh the details of the scene out within the outline, this usually happens when I either don't have time to write the chapter in a doc, or am just brainstorming ideas still. I also have sections for characters that include things like future skills, relationships, backstory, and things like sexual encounter ideas and what kind of mother they'd be. I keep future arc ideas and outlines in there too, so as I think of new ideas and details for those parts of the story, they're saved for later.
I would say not to stress out too much about being perfect organized, and kinda let yourself just pop off to start. With a small starting point, you can have the foundation to build a nice structure around it after the fact.

I appreciate the kind words, Anon. Also, I appreciate the advice. I think the real disconnect between actually writing and thinking about writing is the anxiety. The transitory experience between falling in love with a character complex or setting, then going toward fleshing it out, it feels like myself is getting lost in translation and I just sketch what’s left of me out from following through with it. Maybe I just need to *write* and treat it like a melting pot of my ideas. I really like the way you approach some of these things, it’s pretty nice to see the workflow of you and other Anons here. If you're thinking of doing a VN you have a couple of options. The least level of commitment would be something like using Twine and having it be a purely text based work. After that it goes up to using actual VN making software like ren'py and wrangling up things like music and art assets.

Fair, given your circumstances. I'll say this much though, you're the only one who can give your passion project the love it deserves. You can hire mercs, but even if they're great and talented people, they won't be able to see your exact vision, or why it's so amazing.
But when you do everything solo, it takes a lot of time, but you can finetune everything to be exactly what you want.

I think the anxiety you feel comes from that initial barrier of getting out of your comfort zone and producing something with the intent for others to see it. The fear of getting passionate over what you might create is not a bad thing either, in fact, use it to make what you envision the best it can possibly be. What's more important than anything is to take things at the pace that is comfortable for you. None of this is a race, and everyone writes at their own speeds. You gotta do what works for you, and I know that initial dive might seem scary at first, but once you jump, it all becomes simple. You should think about the broad strokes and themes of your story and then let what your mind comes up with flow - if it ends up too similar to something else you can always change it later.

I think the criticism of the lore was mostly caused by the weird teasers, the awkward "lore trailer" that played before all the debuts, the difficulties some of the girls had in handling their role at the start, and Omega being shoehorned into Council's post-debut collab for an extra layer of vtweeter chuuni.
