So who here is a currently active vtuber? Any advice you can give for someone interested in the industry?

The market is already oversaturated, fuck off

Don't do it as a job. Do it as a hobby. If you make money, then that's just a bonus. The friendships and creative control are much more valuable in the long run.

Don't let what others do dictate what you do. Passion is very hard to fake and you'll have to be "on" more time than not, most likely. Do what you already enjoy, all the better if what you like is something that isn't already being done by other chuubas. There's plenty of gaming vtuber streams, so trying something else could work. Honestly the debatebro vtuber space hasn't really been touched yet, or even reviews or analysis style content. You don't necessarily need to be someone that mainly streams. If you're dead set on streaming games try to play something that's not already commonly played by streamers, not just vtubers. As a content creator you're competing with everyone else, just primarily other vtubers.

As for character/kayfabe, a little goes a long way. Subtle references and call backs are nice, but many people will cringe at overdoing it. Err on the side of underselling the RP aspect.

What kind of content are you interested in making exactly

I've been working on a vtuber project for a couple months now. Its not anime character and it doesn't involve streaming games.

Ask yourself why you want to be a vtuber. Are you just mimicking your favorite vtuber? Do you have anything that can make you stand out from the crowd? Do you have an entertaining personality and can engage with an audience? Are you prepared to deal with months of sub 100 viewership? Will you get discouraged if you don't make it big immediately?

As other people have said it a saturated market just like let's players, and vlogers before them. There is no opportunity of mediocrity leading to success at this point.

not OP but I have been thinking about becoming a analysis/ anime review type vtuber
I already have a channel I upload to very infrequently and have gotten some small success with the experiments.
I was thinking about using vroid studio and 3tene but it's hard to make it look that good.

Would a default model be enough?
I'm not an artist at all and they look decent enough

if you learn the L2D program you can comm some SEA artist on deviantart for a anime character bust for like 30$ and cut it and rig it yourself

I was considering commissioning an artist to make a static piece so I can become a pngtuber, then if it goes well I'll get a good well rigged model.
Is the rigging and cutting difficult?
