>saplings dont really hunt to kill
Putting that idiotic argument on the side for a moment, this has me curious. I would assume that animal deaths would be tracked so that the corpse's skin can be harvested for leather before scavengers get to it/decomposition happens. So would a Sapling leave a weakened animal to perish if their goal was to obtain leather, even if treatment was available? Would that be seen as nature taking its course or negligence in preserving life on the part of the Sapling? Would herds of animals infected with parasites/disease be left alone or treated?

Kinda hard to judge on that front. Kokone's are definitely more saggy, and Sana's a lot more squished in her one piece, and the lack of clear side view on Sana's reference sheet leaves us only guessing as to their true size.

Ohh that's a very beautiful image, nice. So, it's cold with no precipitation and little wind. Perfect for fishing.
And on the other side you've got the vortex. I guess it doesn't really move, so I wonder if there would be a city in the eye of cyclone? Though the eye might wander at least a bit. Still it would be cool imagery to be in a calm area but on every side you can see the walls of the storm.
Yeah, water that's already out of the gravity well would make more sense, checks out.

THE INTERACTIVE MAP 3.0 UPDATE HAS ARRIVED!
----> https://vtwbg.github.io/ <-----
CLICK ABOVE TO GO CHECK IT OUT!

This massive overhaul has been a longtime coming, but now that each pixel has finally been located and lovingly, painstakingly transferred over to the new design, I hope you can all enjoy the freshly up to date Vitubia. That being said, the projections for 2.0 and 3.0 aren't very compatible and a lot of mistakes are bound to crop up in this kind of undertaking, so please look everything over carefully and let me know if I inadvertently wrecked something like the borders or topography of your thread's nation. Please also note that everything was mostly just ported over directly from the old maps, so if you've been making your own local maps with various changes and want those reflected on the site then you'll need to let me know.
Other changes in this version include:
>slight expansion of the northern /uuu/ border
>readdition of /nasa/
>renaming of several threads based on their catalog appearances
>deduplication of /ahoy/
I really can't believe there's been two /ahoy/s on the map for months and no one said anything
There have also been some cosmetic changes due to how this map was put together compared to the old one. You might notice differences such as new borderless offerings, thicker lines, the removal of lakes as boundaries, and probably some other things that I'm forgetting about. If you guys don't like something about the new style then let me know and I'll see about more closely mimicking the old functionalities. The accuracy of the distance and area calculators should now be improved as well since they were initially built with an equirectangular projection in mind.
You may have also noticed that the interactive map now lists both the warmer and cooler climate models as options. This should hopefully make it easier to directly compare them. On that note, we should probably make a decision regarding which one we'll be using moving forward. The 3.0 island issue also needs to be resolved. I started assigning some of them, mostly along the coastlines, but even there there are a lot of ambiguous cases. What should be done about all these new, two-pixel islands? I've also been toying with the idea of adding continent and ocean names to the map at some point, so if people want to brainstorm names for that then that's another thing we could hold a discussion on.
tl;dr interactive map should be up to date now

>So would a Sapling leave a weakened animal to perish if their goal was to obtain leather, even if treatment was available?
It would be unrealistic to say that all saplings act the same. Though there is a culture with general guidelines, each sapling lives their own life according to their own choices. That being said, generally saplings would try to help if they, for example, saw that a tree had fallen on a deer's leg and left it pinned. They wouldn't get in the way of animals hunting or hurting each other. They also wouldn't purposefully attempt to get animal products through willful negligence, but they also wouldn't adopt an old senile beaver to try to get it to live an extra year.

>Would herds of animals infected with parasites/disease be left alone or treated?
Assuming it was a small localized kind of disease, they would just let nature run its course. If it was something much more wide spread that had the potential to threaten the forest as a whole, it would be stopped.

>Golden apples
Those only grow in Fauna's Cradle. If by some miracle you somehow made it in there, eating an apple that could possibly gives you eternal life would be the last thing on your mind.

>Good detail that they would cull herds if they presented potential thread to the ecosystem as a whole. Would that also apply if a certain population greatly grew and presented a possible threat to the balance in the forest?
Things along those lines wouldn't really happen. The forest would take action on its own to prevent it before it got that out of hand. And if for whatever reason it did, the forest itself would do the culling, or maybe the Guardians if it needed more serious and direct intervention. It would be an extremely rare situation for the saplings as a whole to have to step in

I assume the vortex will be relatively stationary although it probably would still jiggle a bit (I find conflicting information on whether libration would still be a thing when the planet’s eccentricity and inclination’s 0) around the area immediately east of the SSP. That said I imagine all functional settlements on Armilla will have some degree of mobility so a city shouldn’t have problems maintaining its position in the eye of the cyclone. That said the main issue’s that while the weather’s calm in the eye, it’s also probably the hottest spot on the surface and the air’s saturated with evaporating seawater, so you’ll probably die if you stand there without protection. That said, I imagine the archetypal Armilla city design will be some form of seascraper/sea-arcology or a conglomerate of them, so the above-surface level of the city will more than likely be shielded/domed with its own life support system to maintain a comfortable environment. Alternatively, its position might also make it a good place to put a communication array to transmit and receive information from a synchronous/L1 orbital station or the inner worlds directly!
I might also make meteor a somewhat common thing on Armilla to maximize its tourist trap/romantic scene potential

I guess it's part of the projection incompatibility? Otherwise it looks great. The manual zoombar is a great addition. I'm not sure how much it helps with usability but having a help button that can display tips might be a good future function. Like explaining how to use the area measurement tool there instead of just the hover tooltip or having a direct link to our climate rentry articles for easier access by any newfags.

Yeah, since that specific climate map is still drawn on 2.0 the borders won't be the same, but the zones themselves should still translate to their respective locations. I'll probably update that with a 3.0 version at some point, but for now I decided it would be better to wait and see if we plan on using that climate or not before committing time to it. As for your other suggestions, those might be a bit more complicated to add in, but I'll add them to the list of suggested future features and give them some thought.

Got it, so if two saplings made a baby, basically the baby would simply start getting saplingified as soon as he's born (or conceived?)?

Its NOT a genetic trait
If two saplings made a baby, it would come out as a normal human, but being raised around sapling culture and rituals from such a young age would make it predisposed to start saplifying earlier, yeah

Ah I understand now, saplingification requires quite some time immersed into /uuu/, so it wouldn't start immediately. Maybe when the child is 2-5 years old? Or later?

2-5 would be considered very early, but not unheard of
If that happened, it would almost be a guarantee that the child was "chosen" by the forest to become an ent/druid

>>52461980
Yes, but only after a certain point.
Technically speaking, saplification starts immediately for non-saplings upon entering /uuu/, its just a matter of time and intensity. As the body's cells mutate, the immune system will naturally get rid of any cells it considers "bad" much the same way it naturally gets rid of cancerous cells when DNA proteins get fucked up during cell reproduction. But because it happens slowly all over your body, after a certain point the genetic edit will be so thorough that it will become the new normal. At that point, theres no going back.
This is also why rapid saplification is so dangerous (outside of the obvious more physical downsides of having leaves grow inside your lungs). A non-sapling's body will be continuously at war with itself trying to fight the saplification of the cells it considers "foreign".

Small signs might show around age 10, but puberty would accelerate growth so teens would generally show some small leaves, sprouts, or bark. It slows after that until later in the 30s or possibly 40s when and if the sapling chooses to become more spiritual and dedicated to the rituals and the forest. In general most saplings will look mostly human for most of their life. Only a small few go on to become ents/druids.

picrel is a rough depiction of the lifecycle another sapling made about a year ago

Not him, but do you think pituitary glands and/or the general endocrine system play a role in transformation then? Or is it that the drastic change of puberty is a perfect vehicle for other change, like saplification?

Its primarily the accelerated metabolism. Its important to remember that its not directly a biological thing (at least at first), it originally comes from the chuubanite in the /uuu/ soil being activated by the "religion" of Fauna worship

>> No.52467732

>>52467078
Is it? I'd always assumed your metabolic speed was a constantly depreciating rate, not something that accelerated during puberty. It makes sense though.

On similar note, what happens if someone who is fully saplified exits the outer boundaries of Fauna's influence? Do they depend on the chuubanite at some point? If so, do Druids or Ents rely on higher concentrations of it to survive?

Space gives a lot more space for would-be gods to be gods. Most /asp/ies have fairly incestuous relationships with their fellow chuubas, so I could imagine a solar system where /asp/ies who successfully underwent /asp/otheosis rule over entire worlds as gods (the world is a small asteroid). Followers who haven't undergone the rituals yet might populate those forsaken lands, biding their time until they too can join the ever growing and impotent pantheon, and claim their own world (a smaller asteroid).

Nice symbol. I like how you found a way to work in those meteoroids! So, I guess the absolute top tier vacation spots will be near the solar terminal, on the orbital equator where you get the most star falls and temperate weather?
