The characters look good and they are in a world that feels real.
That's about it.
Writing is garbage, Genshin has one of the worst borderline non existing storylines I have ever seen in any gacha and Mihoyo is a hardon for vomiting as many words as possible, if something can be shown or said with a dozen words they will find a way to take 100 words to say it.
Gameplay is also borderline non existent, the "main story" can be completed without knowing any of the game's mechanics or engaging in them.
The combat's mechanics are actually pretty good, they offer a lot of depth, interactivity and possibilities, it's possible to chain multiple attack combos and rotations, but most shit will die to a single special attack anyway, nothing can kill you and there is a very limited variety of enemies, the environment doesn't play any significant role. And because the game has to run on phones it has a very small limit of enemies it can spawn at once.
It's repetitive meet enemies> one an attack> they die.
Most of the game is simple "go to NPC, speak to them, go to place, touch thing, kill a small group of enemies, get more dialogue".
Exploration is pretty bad, everything is out in the open so it's just a glorified walking simulator. Most shit is empty or has the same 5 generic enemy types. There are puzzles but they are all really dumb and not fun, they're just there to get some gacha roll resource.

Playing Genshin means going through shitty combat to progress a shitty story while exploring a shitty world.
The only good thing about the game are the characters. They're not even 10/10 amazing, they are heavily censored, cleavage is basically banned from the game due to chinese regulation, tits never go above medium, the "lolis" have really awful anatomy and look more like huge headed goblins than the rest of the humans in the game and all the male characters look like male vtubers they are just gay young pretty boys.
But there are still many quality girls in the game. They're the only thing that makes it worth playing.
If they were in any other game they'd be low tier, but in Genshin they are well modelled in 3D and even though the quality of the design is still very limited to fit in shitty phones, a lot of assets are just painted on top and not real, the designs are still good enough.
What makes them work is the fact that they are in 3D.
That right there is the key to Genshin, the characters are in 3D, and in a normal art style, it's not shitty low quality chibi either, it's normal 3D and the art style is very good.
It makes looking at the characters very pleasant. Which justifies playing the rest of the game.
There are other 3D gachas but they are sci fi shit, the designs just aren't that good.
Also Genshin has an open world, and even though as I said before it sucks and it's more like a chore it's still cool to know that if you ever see a mountain or a beach or a tower anywhere in the distance you can actually go to it. It makes it all feel more real.
Genshin's appeal is simply that no other game does what it currently does better.
It's why it can suck people in and keep them trapped.
There's nothing else that can replicate that experience.
The fantasy setting is comfy, the open world makes it all feel more immersive and real, the characters are pretty nice and look great.
