Thanks! You know redline anon pointed out doing 100 heads mindlessly isn’t that helpful and I think he’s right and wrong. At my level part of the problem isn’t just that I’m bad, I’m inconsistently bad. I would draw things with a different approach each time, and it was hard to tell after the fact if a bad face was because I had the basic geometry wrong or if my concept was okay and it was the fact I can’t draw a smooth line was the problem. Doing a few in a row made me at least pick an approach and stick with it. That’s what made me realize I was making my faces too spherical since I was starting with a ball. The face/eyes are pretty flat actually. I was also starting with a relatively human jaw, disliking it every time, then screwing everything up trying to make the jaw and chin smaller and cuter, losing the midline of the face in the process. Using leading edge/planes of the face, drawing an actual nose then erasing it, connecting to the head and temporal area, etc seems to be working better.

The other thing is every time I draw something I’ll think about all the stuff I want to work on. Foreshortening, feet, hair, shading, etc. 100 heads is arbitrary but it keeps me somewhat focused so I don’t forget all the stuff I was progressing on while I was distracted. I can remember where I read it but someone said if everything else is amazing but your faces aren’t cute, it doesn’t matter, so I want to keep in it until they are no longer the limiting factor in my drawings.

I'd keep them because it's part of the character, so realism would be a secondary priority. Even so, I think the most reasonable explanation would be transforming away the tails when lying down.
