sometimes I think indies have a very warped perception of what the term parasocial actually means. A chuuba with 10 viewers that recognizes them by name and talks to them to some degree off-stream on twitter or discord isn't being parasocial. I guess it's theoretically possible for someone on that small of a scale to get an actual parasocial viewer that tries to go all Perfect Blue on their ass or something, but almost universally I see it being used to describe basic internet acquaintances or even friendships. I always hope it's someone just parroting words they saw applied to much larger chuubas that literally do not know their fans beyond being a writhing mass in chat (holo/niji/etc.) and not someone that thinks so little of a person that decided to watch johnny 2view.

i tell people i stream not for the money but for recognition and the only reason I'm affiliate is because i have a lot of channel point interactions. I thank them anyways and move on with it. Still I don't think there's "too much gratitude" especially when you are small. I remember going to buffpups stream once and she spent 30 minutes thanking incoming subs so i clicked off because there was no content. That I feel like was a little much but I also get it. Let people do what they want and just leave the stream if it upsets you. I for example only follow / sub off-stream because i don't want the attention.

How the fuck do you build a community from scratch? literally everyone I’ve seen with any active chat started getting their initial viewers from somewhere other than actually streaming. ive only ever seen one case of somebody starting from scratch and actually getting a following but theyre unique. they got raided on their first stream and somehow instantly got like 5 regulars (its obvious why but thats not important). any tips from actual streamers here?
