Yeah don't get me wrong, the previous time I git pull it was so bad that I reverted to an old commit which I've been on for awhile now. I decided to check in and save my old hash in case I didn't like it. It cut my generation times in half so I think it's worth a try but definetly save your current commit just in case.

The same way artists responded to the invention of the camera, printing press, or any other technology that allowed for the mass commoditization of art that was 80-95% as good as an original piece made by a skilled artist.
The truly skilled artists will remain in high demand, perhaps even higher demand. Mid/low tier artists will see their consumer base dry up as competent AI jockeys begin charging for their work and that practice becomes more accepted.
As with the printing press and camera, brand new jobs will also be created, but I'm not exactly sure what that would look like. Mass production of concept art? Fusion of digital art skill with mass production or random idea generation of AI? You might even have good artists charge AI model creators commissions to use their work to train models. Hard to say.

For the purpose of this test, the criteria was "The hands have the correct shape and the correct number of fingers"
It seems that hll-s-2 is somewhat more likely to give weird hands, but I don't know if 300 images is a good sample size. Either way, the badhandv4 embedding does more to fix hands than hll-s-2 does to mess them up.

AI is a tool. I actually had a legit artist hit me up on pixiv the other day to ask some questions about how I was doing my generations. Not some no name artist either mind you, someone that you've probably seen their vtuber art posted around /vt/ quite a bit.

We chatted and he showed me his own gens. He's using the AI in tandem with own skills/knowledge as an artist to make some pretty stunning stuff. I think he's a good example as to how artists should respond to AI. AI art is a tool that they themselves can use and take advantage of. I have a feeling that the artist who learn to make the most of it will pull ahead of their contemporaries that shun it.

I think that the anti-ai individuals are missing the big picture with how much they're pushing the copyright angle on AI. Corporations like Disney are using these people as useful idiots to have angle for stricter copyright laws, which in the end will hurt artists much more. I don't want to get too off topic but there's a good amount of reading you can do on that angle if you haven't already.

2) depending on the amount of effort put into the final piece (proompting, inpainting, editing, lora-making, model-making) it's not unreasonable to ask for money for your final pieces. wrangling the AI is an unironic skill (good luck finding a buyer though)
3) no, art style training is not unethical, especially when [insert artist here] doesn't have their commissions open, doesn't accept commissions for [insert niche fetish here], is no longer active, and/or would never have drawn it on their own time

Good question. It's a compliment. What's to stop me from taking a picture of the Mona Lisa, or buying a post-card of the Sistine Chapel ceiling? I have a canvas print of one of Claude Monet's pieces hanging in my living room.
Now maybe there are some digital tools out there that I don't know of that these artists could use to make their art blow up a LoRA or model trained on them, but I would never bet against AI simps in a technology arms race over digital artists. In short, they need to deal with the same problem facing a ton of white collar workers right now: adapt to the advent of AI and add value in that new ecosystem, or eventually be replaced (unless you are really good at what you do).

I would add that I agree with this anon's second point. Proper Google searching, effective ChatGPT querying, and competent SD prompting are all acquired learning skills. I know I've spent hundreds of hours by now learning how to make images with AI and make them less shit than the ones I made in the past. No one has voluntarily compensated me for that skill yet (I have a fanbox but do not gate any content behind it), but those who choose to go that route have at least some merit, in my opinion, to be compensated for their time and skill.

I had a discussion in a forum not too long defending AI art while the other person was an artist of 16 years in the art community. His main point was AI art was stealing artist's works without their permission and compensation and that AI art derived from their work should have to pay royalties. and it's immoral since we can make loli porn (lol).

While I admit AI art can be trained to mimic artist's works and those that use it for monetization are doing it bad faith and greed and should be called out. But laws are slow so to be honest artist are shit out of luck then.

He also makes a point that the AI art is not art and that it is soulless but I mean whatever it's good enough to make porn, than most amateur shit we had to put up with less than a year ago, but I didn't bring that up to keep things civil.

He also says all AI prompters do is just put in a few words and make the art and we should never compare that to someone who spent time to learn to draw. I tell him I'll never say I'm an artist and anyone who uses this to call themselves an artist is delusional.

However I do tell him I'm a crafter, I craft the prompt, getting a prompt to consistently output the requested image is what I'm really after. A prompt needs to be fine tuned, it is not as simple as typing what needs to be made and magically the AI does it. There is weight balancing, ensuring your tags don't overlap, knowledge of the tags and supplementing with LoRAs. We are not artist but I can say we are crafters, we make the instructions for the AI to guide it.

I do tell him all the good shit you see right now is all highly curated and for the most probably are not done to any specific description. Ask the AI to make a character hold something and it shits the bed, ask the AI more than one character we are gonna have to put our try hard pants on. Ask the AI for pin-ups of one girl, yeah we can do that by the millions, sex? sure can. Artist need to do more than sexy girl now, the bar is rising, they either git gud to be drown.

Meanwhile there's a ton of art created using copyrights of which the artist does not own the IP for (see: Disney characters). If AI artists have to pay compensation for using another artists intellectual property, the next step is obviously that artist will have to pay mega corporations for using their intellectual property too. Additionally, any fines against AI artists might be a big deal for someone like you or me but these fines will be practically pennies for big corporations. So not only are companeis like Disney using AI as a way to increase their control off copyright, they're also the best postioned to take advantage of any restrictions on AI in the future.

Artist here, I've always been interested in technology in general and AI in particular. As some of the other anons have already stated, AI is a tool. To me, it's simply yet another program to use alongside the likes of Substance Painter and Maya/Blender.
Many of those with an anti-AI stance tend to argue how AI art is "soulless" because of how quickly one can make it, therefore it shouldn't count as art. Honestly, the average person could care less whether or not you added more strokes to a work or smudged colors together just right way, or whether it took you 45 mins or several hours completing a single piece. If they see something that's visually pleasing to them, then they'll like it without much of a thought on the process.
This whole argument of what is "soulless" or not just comes from one's own ego. I've been in a couple of artist circles in the past and there definitely is an overabundance of ego that you have to deal with. A lot of snobbery and mocking of their own fellow artists for not being on their level. So, when a tool comes along that allows your average joe to quickly churn out art that rivals or even surpass anything they can make, of course they'd be dismissive of AI.

It sounds ironic to say, but I feel like most people just don't really care about art. All I hear about modern art is how awful it is or that its just a money laundering scheme.
Industries of film, music, etc... also have issues but you see much more laypeople develop a deep interest in them compared to art.

AI may come to have a big impact on artists, but its not the reason why people have short attention spans and care little about small details. It just happens to thrive in this environment.
If anything this is probably making a lot of people more interested in art than before, now that they have an active role in creating it. (Especially those without the time or ability to learn.)

It really is. But give it a few years or so. There will be more artists who will dip their toes into this tech and find out how valuable it can be to their own workflow and start using it to the fullest. And in my experience, anything that would help ease the workflow and lessen those crunch hours is a godsend. At least the Japanese artists have been more accommodating to this tech compared to western ones.

I was thinking about this yesterday, after witnessing yet another big dumb AI art argument. The anylora model says it can be used for training with better results than nai, so I'm going to test it. People tend to go "AI is just a tool" urging artists to just use it for themselves but I think they are missing the bigger picture.
Combined with stuff like chatGPT AI art wont just be a thing you boot up and then waste 30 minutes fine tuning a good gen for long. This shit will be fully automatic.
The prompter "middle man" is on borrowed time until AI learns what quality art looks like and what appeals to whichever subject.
You can already ask many chatbots to generate pictures for you and if you talk to it a lot it could easily create something that suits your tastes.
And remember all of this is still in its infant stage. It will evolve creating completely new styles and visuals.
If you go one step further and look at deep fakes and animation the potential scale of this becomes kinda scary.
We are just sitting here doing our part in creating the ultimate virtual artist basilisk and it WILL eventually replace us all.
Maybe traditional art oil on canvas will make a big comeback as "handmade art" we will just have to wait and see.

Hello, also an artist here. Actually got my line of work and several of my friends affected by the AI situation so I have quite the different opinion from the rest of the folks here. Things are all good and dandy until the client who usually contacted you suddenly went radio silent and you discover that they're secretly training a model from the arts you worked for them to make their own stuffs.

Bottom line is, AI is just another tool. Whether it's being put up to good use or bad use will always depend on its users.

There will never be a clear answer on how artists should respond to AI's existence. Stuffs changes everyday, the technology keeps on growing, and there are more people using it for various purposes. But there is one thing for sure.

Artists should never stop drawing and making their own arts, ever!! There is more to arts than just its results. It's a motoric skill, part of hand-eye coordination that one should always try to keep sharp. Part of the creation process also involves imagining scenarios, developing your very own visual library like models but in your very own brain. Depending too much on the AI will dull your skills.

Most artists doesn't know the difference between the subscription based Stable Diffussion and the webui based Stable Diffussion. I view Ai as a crutch. What i can't do on my own i'd let it do for me. I've tried drawing before, but sadly i never managed to live up to my own expectations and over time i found it to be a time sink. Not everyone is destined to draw, but i still want to create colourful pieces of art. Now i can thanks to the advancement of Artificial Intelligence. For those who lament over the fact that Ai art will make human art disappear are folks who can't see the larger picture and tend to be reactionary fellows. A little confession since we're almost at bump limit anyway: I come here to get art ideas and sometimes when I get ideas from an illustration from a real artist I feel bad that I'm copying too much. AI images are technically copying too, but the backgrounds aren't too similar to an existing illustration so it's kind of helpful. I'm not the person doing a paper on AI but I found the responses to that post last thread insightful because AI really can be a helpful tool. I see why JP artists like it so much. I got discouraged when I first heard of AI but I'll try to use it to my advantage instead, especially since I suck at backgrounds. I can use it to practice composition and lighting.

Does anyone have any experience training on models other than novel AI? I've tried training a style lora on both Nai and AnyLora with the same settings and while the Nai version worked as expected the AnyLora version came out kind of deep fried. The Nai version ended up okay at 10 epochs but the anylora one was completely fucked. I ended up comparing the Nai version at 10 epochs and weight 1 with the anylora one at around 2 or 3 with weights of 0.5-0.7
