The people donating half their salary to a vtuber because they have nothing else to live for are the ones that make it so that vtubers don't have to look for a second job and can have a luxurious lifestyle. This, basically imagine what a street performer playing guitar on the sidewalk gets. Randos passing by being entertained for a few minutes will drop like, $5, maybe 10 or 20. If they come by and see that performer on the street and recognize him weekly for even years, it's not like they'll suddenly start donating hundos. It'll still be $5.

Your average non-top-0.001% streamer on twitch doing some random chatting/gaming etc will get like $2 in bits or something for doing something really cool on stream and get like $20 in bits for achieving some milestone on a speedrun or being ultra-pro in an esports match or something. It's like applause, and not really what people do/think when donating to chuubas.

I dunno what that even really is come to think of it, how people generally act when donating to chuubas. It looks to me kind of like either little love notes and letters of encouragement or something. I am hard pressed to think of high-dollar SCs not seeming at least somewhat parasocial in nature and often are full-bore magnum load para.
