I can almost certainly promise you a china release of a potential cover video game has nothing to do with anything.

Releasing a video game in china at all is so expensive it wouldn't be worth it for the market share. It's a gacha themed around idols where you're talking maybe 20-30 million fans total in the whole market off of billi billi numbers. The rest of the world approximately matches them, however you don't need to go through a censor board and bribe a shitload of people to release to them. Vtubing isn't that big.

I'm holding to the theory that while Zhang was part of the decision, it was not solely for it - nor was it a major point.
There were compounding issues with management, being unable to do Asacoco and who-knows how many things got cut behind the scene. Coco was open about her struggles with the higher ups and has been bitching for a long while.
Hopefully when she returns to HER, she can do the things she wanted to do.

I've been playing shitty f2p/mobile games for awhile that happen to have very garbage english servers, any legitimate criticism of the game management is shut down immediately outside of 4chan. The complicating issue is that Coco isn't being unpersoned at all the way you'd expect if Cover just wants to make peace with China. She's going to remain in Hololive Alternative (albeit as a giant dragon) and other talents will be free to talk about her after July 1st. Also, China has recently enacted a bunch of restrictions that would make it nearly impossible for Cover to re-enter the Chinese market.
