Interesting, that gives more credence to the theory that EN folks that got into VTubers through Myth developed high standards for chuubas thanks to them exhibiting their talent during debut itself (except Kiara, who just menhera'd the fuck out seeing complaints about her translating stuff she was saying mid-stream), and because of Myth being the trailblazers as well as being the only "good" ones on the scene. Pikamee and Hana were the biggest "EN" VTubers before Myth's debut, and they were no competition at all.
People that got into them later on, e.g. with Council or Lazulight just adopted the Hololive mentality of "positivity" and just watched the new girls even though they weren't particularly talented or entertaining - because other than Myth these were the only other EN chuubas around for a long while.

But thanks to the EN VTuber scene expanding, there's a lot more options nowadays, but a large part of the EN audience are still watching Holos out of habit, even though they realize that the early times where they had multiple projects, collabs, and generally streamed a lot more, has long since passed.

And so there's two types of EN fans, the ones just looking for an excuse to change their time sink habit (male collabs) and those that want EN3 to debut so that they can still remain within the comfy Hololive ecosystem but still try "new" VTubers and diversify, and hope for a return to the early days.

Tbh I watched a few NijiEN Minecraft streams from before Luxiem, and it just felt way more flat than the HoloEN ones. It might be that “knockoff of Hololive” feeling that small corpos who play Minecraft also give off.
Which is why I think at the end of the day, it’s not Minecraft, it’s the historical context. Minecraft was the only thing JP could stream for awhile after the Holocaust, and it created a dynamic in that game that sustains itself by new members joining in. Luca fucked up for sure, but the worst part was that the position they were in was honestly one of the best opportunities they had for an "underdog" style story arc of "rebuilding after a calamity".

It’s the latter. When council debuted, Kronii appealed to me most because of the model. In order to install some mod, he force-upgraded the server to a different version.
As the new version conflicted with the old, it overwrote a large portion of the zone around spawn with new blocks, effectively "formatting their c:".
Funniest part is the sequence of events that followed
1) As the areas close to spawn were the oldest ones, the OG girls (lazulight and Obsydia) lost the most of their stuff, while Ethyria lost some and Luxiem and Noctyx got away pretty much scot free
2) Luca and admin attempt to fix the situation fucked things even harder and more permanently, as they tried to restore some chunks but most of the restoration only brought back stuff from the early Luxiem days forward

You're supposed to watch them and enjoy the slightly different yet familiarly comfortable content until your oshi comes back.

There's a reason both Hololive and Nijisanji ACCELERATED the fuck out of their first 2 years, Holo only slowed down in a major way after Gen 5 was released, that's like 30+ chuubas over the course of 3 years, 10 per year.
Nijisanji took it to asinine and comical levels, but Hololive was a lot more moderate, giving each of the earlier gens at least a few months to settle in before debuting more people.
They started in 2017, and by the end of the first two and a half years of their operations, they had 28 freaking members -

But once again, half of the blame goes to the existing girls as well, because they aren't doing any collaborations with each other, even at least once a fucking MONTH.
If your audience hasn't had enough time to familiarize themselves with any of the other girls, it's natural to treat them as "just another coworker" like they themselves are doing. Fans reflect the streamers after all.
People are leaving because the "box" is not there for EN, there's not enough members for one (MAJOR issue) and the existing members don't interact with each other enough to get their audience familiarized with the other girls enough that they can watch them if their oshi is on break.

I was thinking about what some anon was saying the other day about Roboco, Mel and Aki and the HoloBox and I was thinking about what makes each of them struggle to connect with the fanbase. One thing that stood out to me and I never considered this before but why is it so rare for Mel to have unplanned interactions with others? Almost every interaction of hers is either a scheduled collab or a pre-planned guest appearance. I had to sit down and think real hard about the last genuine time she had any real extended interaction that just happened spontaneously and all I could come up with was Pekora running into Mel and her wonderful prison…all the way back in 2020.

Even Aki and Roboco who struggle with the HoloBox manage to have random unplanned interactions with others every so often but with Mel she rarely plays the types of games that cater towards such moments. And even when she does she usually picks a time when no one else is streaming the same game (is it on purpose?). And even by rare chance there is some overlap, she puts on heavy duty blinders and does the bare amount of interaction to be socially polite and focuses on whatever boring task she has planned ahead of time to do solo. It’s like she feels uncomfortable with spontaneous moments with the others, everything has to be pre-planned or else she goes out of her way to avoid it. And unfortunately those types of moments are goldmines for clips which probably plays into why she so rarely gets them.

To borrow a recent term from Silvervale, why does Mel seem to stick with ‘happy fun business fake’ interactions?
