I tried getting into vtubers, but the whole culture leaves with with feelings of dread and uneasiness that I can't quite articulate. Why is that? Are there any good vtubers that don't lean into the parasocial waifu aspect?

I mean, what kind of vtubers are you seeing Anon? Cause my indie vtuber just draws, rambles and very rarely plays OSRS.
But, yeah, the vtuber community is a weird place because it's an offshoot of the Idol community mixed with the Streamer community and a zest of the E-girl community so that kind of makes an abomination.

The answer is always indie. Each corpo has its own culture that it expects its vtubers to contribute to. Indie vtubers are free to act however they want. Look around and you'll find someone who suits your specific tastes.
