Salome talks in a way that resonates with JP, and if you translate it, it loses all meaning. JPs swear up and down that if you could understand her you would immediately "get" it.

Seems like really just a right place right time kinda thing - maybe HoloID was actually kinda premature all this time and we just didn't know, which is why the original holoIDs had not remotely as much success until they started speaking English - also note nijiIDs were always 3views at best and many were literally 2views. IIRC Moona used to stream mostly as ID at first, and couldn't even speak English that well originally. In ID2 Ollie/Reine had way, way better results than Anya, who often would not stream in English. ID3's mostly done pretty good with more English speakers, it's not like Kaela/Zeta are doing bad at all - yet Kobo is there korbin' out all over the place. So yeah something really fucking changed with the reception in Indonesia itself.

I think it's also because Kobo is kind of a memer zoomer type there who is terminally online, not unlike Gura also being an in-the-know online memer type, and maybe Indonesians hadn't really seen someone quite like that before at this exact place/time so she took off like wildfire.

There's no explanation for no EN3 in 20 months outside of Cover being retarded. The 1 million subs is an obvious correlation and not a causation, and the reason why a new HoloEN gen didn't come out yet is because Cover and the EN staff didn't want to let Anycolor dominate the male vtuber market in the west and genuinely thought the EN audience would accept and watch a StarsEN just like they did with HoloEN. That’s fine. I get it. They debuted HoloID for similar reasons (to get a foothold in a new market). I’d say the gamble was this: do they debut Tempus AND EN3, and spend a lot of money on an overseas branch (which is always riskier than the JP branch because JP corpos tend to be self-aware how shit they are at expanding internationally SEA is different, Japan has historically understood SEA far better than any other foreign market)? Or do they bank on their assumption that EN doesn’t give a fuck about cgdct/gfe and make Tempus EN3 without calling them that? The first option risks wasting lots of money because of how quickly Council fizzled out, while the second risks making HoloEN’s problems worse through lack of a new gen.
Honestly, I think anybody who wasn’t in fear of the hugbox dog piling them would tell them obviously, do the first options. Even if HoloEN’s problems are structural, an EN3 would at least buy them time to fix their shit. But no, they tried to force HoloPro down our throats, and plenty of people are just tired of it and at the very least stopped contributing to the kind of fan discourse that builds hype for the brand.
I can easily imagine an alternate timeline where Cover stuck to its old strategy of “Debuting new Stars isn’t the end of the world, we’re not Nijisanji”, and built trust in the brand. But no, we’re here.

Afaik male models aren't more expensive than female ones, and some of the artists they got for Tempus are not no-names, not to mention they debuted 8 of them in less than 6 months when debuting an EN3 together with only one Tempus gen would be a total of 9 talents, and they also had debut orisong for both gens. She laser focuses on ID only content basically.
ID has a different internet culture compared to the rest of the world. The memes and humor can be considered cringe and super low brow for people who are just used to the global internet culture. Kobo embraced this opportunity and got boosted by ID fleshtubers.
Her voice is also a very polarizing element. I find it super grating because her voice inflection and tone is very typical of loud ghetto kids in ID, but those ghetto kids make up for more than half of ID internet users AND vtuber enthusiasts, and those same kids are also not that fluent in English, which she just capitalized on it further.

For comparison, Niji Mika's humor is more for global internet culture, she's more relatable for ID people who are fluent in English but she doesn't do well with ID youngsters who are not familiar with said culture and don't speak English well. Kobo's humor is more for ID audience who don't speak english well and who grew up with ID internet culture, but she doesn't do well with ID people who are fluent in english.
The thing is, ID people who are used to global internet culture are more likely to consume holoEN or JP anyway, so instead of trying to cater to the global audience, Kobo just cut them off her radar and focuses on her strength in local ID audience.
