What were the golden years of Vtubing?

>> No.47695765

The year before HoloEN debuted. Now normalfags are making everything worse like they always do when they come to a niche hobby.

2017-2019 were the years of innovation and success in my opinion, everything else after that is industrialization and saturation before the bubble popped. If only there'd been a better way for vTubers to expand into the west without it degenerating so horribly maybe this hobby could've been saved before the plateau

This. We've reached the point that we have vtubers for everything.
You like idols?
You like to pretend she's your girlfriend?
You like whores?
You like literal, actual whores?
You like indie games?
You like AAA games?
You like 'em in a dozen different fucking languages?
You like honest-to-god AIs?

People bitching about nostalgia just aren't fucking LOOKING for the vtubers they actually want to watch, and are instead obsessing about how the vtubers they used to watch aren't the same anymore.

You're a fucking retard. I mean that wholeheartedly.
It's not ENOUGH that normies have their own VTubers. They MUST, in any and ALL circumstances, ruin it for people they do not consider normal.

Have you seen a group of guys hanging out? How many fucking times did a passer-by woman ruin it? I rest my fucking case.

>> No.47709894

The Kizuna era when you had to actually be entertaining and come up with skits and stuff like editing was important. Turning vtubing into a regular streamer format was a mistake. Even during her time it was happening already though thanks to advent of shitty Live2D that any fag could use with no effort.

And it already stagnated. When's the last big innovation you've heard of? Keep in mind, going from 2D to 3D is simply doing what VTubers did at the very beginning. They STARTED at 3D.

>> No.47710832

>>47709894
Just as how vtubing should have remained a niche hobby in Japan, it should have also remained a exclusive thing you could only find on YouTube or Nico Nico, because as you said, you still needed talent to be a successful content creator. The vtuber model was just a nice bonus. Now that twitchfags and casuals have infested the genre, all you need is a model that screams sex, and a mental illness strong enough to keep chat entertained, because you're no longer doing 10 minute planned out skits, but instead 2-4 hour streams of awkward silence, and menhera autism.

>> No.47710841

>>47710108
I don't necessarily think that the current Live2D, video game streamer focus of vtubing is going to be all that vtubing is in the future. I can respect not being into practically any of the vtubers this board talks about and even agree that I'd like to see more structured and scripted stuff from vtubers, but there already is plenty of that stuff out there. I don't see why it's impossible that there could be more of it in the future.
I also don't really see the point in getting hung up on innovation for innovation's sake. We're still in the first decade of vtubing.

>I don't see why it's impossible that there could be more of it in the future
A lot that could happen in terms of interactable fiction characters similar to Gorillaz, the old Kizuna Ai, or just having VR avatars become mainstream
There's a simple joy in seeing creators bringing cute girls to life through decent mo-cap like https://twitter.com/Sakura_Rabbiter/status/1632341819907506176
https://twitter.com/Sakura_Rabbiter/status/1600515299605770240

But in terms of the much more specific "vtubing hobby" talked about here and other corners of the internet it's not looking very hot
Basically a neverending rat race of clout chasing, with not a single shred of desire at creating even slightly original content
A lot of it has to do with streaming being seen as the only real meta
There's only so much you can do to express creatively live, and only so many people out there with the spare time to actively follow live content on the level vtuber fans are known for

What you end up with is a market full of underqualified shitters participating in a shouting contest with fleeting attention as their only hope for salvation,
because many of the biggest streamers corpo and indie were just lucky enough to be noticed at the right time especially first movers like those who became Vshojo,
but also because it didn't cross their mind at all that you might need to actually CREATE something worthwhile in order to get genuine eyes onto you

You're still in the middle of them, anon. Neurosama is a taste of what's coming and one day we'll look back on when watching a chuuba was a communal experience and not an AI girl trapped in a box in your living room that you pay 20-100 bucks a month for.

I completely agree, in a way the pandemic inflated the popularity of streaming in general, but now people don't have that kind of time at their disposal anymore.

The free market is a natural selection system.
Even if thousands of vtubers appear every day, only the most talented ones that meet the public demand will remain relevant in their niche. If you think a product lacks quality, just choose another one that you think has higher quality.

Competition forces participants to innovate, especially in an industry with a low barrier to entry.

The market always corrects itself; if there is a bubble, it bursts; bankruptcy is a necessary mechanism to free up misallocated resources.

You can even make a comparison with the music industry, millions of singers spread all over the world, but only the most talented ones become famous and successful in their musical niche, while most remain amateur singers with small audiences and dubious quality.

Long ago, the four heavenly kings and Aichan lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Niji Nation attacked. Only the VTuber, master of all stream elements, could stop them, but when the world needed her most, she vanished. A hundred years passed and my brothers and I discovered the new VTuber, a Youtuber named Gura.

Peak Holo era. The only comparable thing that happened in the last 3 years was the Rust arc.
