One thing I know from my days on /qa/ is that an "illegal activities" report sends out an alert that summons actual mods instead of janitors so it can be very effective for getting a post removed quickly. However because of this they will also punish you heavily if you report something that is not illegal, so make sure that what you are reporting is actually illegal.
