You can try to focus on how the ordinary relates to the extraordinary. Everything can be connected when it comes to that, and also try to remember, when you have had a lot of the fantastical happen to you, sometimes the casual is a welcome change of pace. Everyone needs a little time to rest now and again. If you want your scenes about the ordinary to pop more though, you can paint more of a picture of the surroundings and how that plays into the casual scene.

I've stalled out writing that Holos that also turn into weapons fic.
Mostly because while I do have an idea for the characters, I don't really know about the setting. I had made up a (probably) unnecessarily overcomplicated setting for it but it kind of got in the way due to how autistic I was being with thinking it up.
Not really sure where to go with it other than maybe going with a simpler concept for the overall story of it, maybe the chuuba battle royale idea that was part of the idea when it originally got proposed a while back?

It honestly depends on what kind of story you're telling but generally even with the most mundane SoL you still need conflict in order to keep the story interesting. You still need to have something interesting in it the ordinary scenes you're writing even if it being ordinary is the point.
Other than that you might benefit from learning how to 'skip'/ tell through the uninteresting bits in order to keep the story going. Not everything needs to get the full scene treatment, sometimes you need to bust out the 'tell' rather than the 'show' if you want to make sure the story keeps going.

For ordinary scenes, focus on the feeling. I don't know if you're doing first person, but emphasize the sensations of the scene and how the characters feel about those sensations.
If you mean ordinary as in, campy, casual dialogue, then just make the dialogue riposte quick and snappy, have an overreaction here and there.

One thing i've learned is that there's no ''ordinary'' that feels normal, so lean into that with small but totally normal ''shakeups''
character is making a cup of coffee because they are in a rush? make it so the machine breaks down or they have to smack it to work or they simply struggle finding the coffee
Character is walking to work? have them sidestep a bike, drop their phone, trip and do the small run you make when you want to pretend you werent going to fall.
the ''ordinary'' is only boring when its perfect and clean with no hiccups, it feels alien yet mundane

I read Sakura Summer.
I love the raw imagery that the author manages to portray, he also paints the psychological aspects of it incredibly well. The fic grabbed me by surprise as well, since I expected Reine to force Anon to rape Miko and I shamelessly admit that I was rooting for it. The ending was also great in it's own way, and I almost teared up when Anon and Miko played like kids once more, and she tells him that he has to move on himself
Great fic overall.

I also reread Childhood hag and it made me feel fuzzy like the first time I did. The ending was a bit on the nose about the fluff, but it was still a nice, bite-sized fluff fic. Still one of my favs.

I think there's fields upon fields of below-average-height fruit waiting to be picked up by this thread. There's a lot of common tropes and cliches I have yet to see given the "x but with chuubas" treatment.
One that's been on my mind is the story of a rich noble girl (possibly royalty) leaving her life of luxury and living among the commoners. There's a lot of routes you could take this, like maybe she was forced out due to an uprising or a war between loyalists and has to go into hiding where (You) are the only one on her side (basically Yona of the Dawn but with chuubas). You could also go with the route of the chuuba being bored or sick of the responsibilities that come with being a noble and so she decides to venture out where she meets (You), a commoner, and the two of you hit it off. It's a fun idea to throw around.

I think using bits and bobs of a character's lore to fit them into a role, and then writing their personality into the situation they've been put into the best you can is WAY more entertaining than "She is a streamer in modern day Tokyo".

That just sounds like you aren't really a 'fanfiction' guy, since a lot of the appeal of making fics with established characters like these is putting them in stuff and telling stories with characters you like. Well, at least for fandoms that are very 'character centered' like ours since the main draw is the characters themselves rather than the world they inhabit.

If I wanted to start on the road to making better and writing out all the smut outlines I've put in a folder I'd probably start with shorter one-shots rather than longer slow-burn fics. Though I'm genuinely going to have to finish my wip backlog before I even consider picking up a smut one-shot.

I can see your points. I guess I'm not really a fanfiction guy, most of my writing has been TTRPG adventures where the NPCs are ultimately tools to shape the journey of the PCs in a way that's enjoyable for everyone around the table.
So I tend to think of setting first, then themes and plot; at that point there's a pretty defined mold the characters have to fit into, which is harder to do with established characters not "native" to the setting.
