In the US at least entertainment is an area where sex (and age, and race) discrimination is perfectly legal. Japan has even fewer antidiscrimination laws. Cover only offers the option for applicants that are male but "sound female" to look progressive. They would never actually hire a man for such a job because the women would never offcollab with him.
