There may be a way to figure out a more traditional ranking system. I'll look into that next. We're getting a little bit into subjectivity here, but going off of a sample size of at least 2 leagues my top teams are /doog/, /mogu/, /koopa/, /vsj+/ in that order. /vsj+/ is knocked slightly because the 3rd place finish in VTL1 really boosts their average placement. I put less weight on that result because the league has more than doubled in size since then.

This is how every current VTL team ranks using the 4cc ranking system. I went back to VTL1, assigned all teams the minimal multiplier for that tournament, and worked my way through up to the end of VTL4 and this is what I got. For simplicity /pcclg/'s ranking points and shit transferred to both /pcg/ and /clg/ when they split and then /clg/'s shit transferred when it became /aeg/ and all of that.

The 4cc ranking system places a lot of emphasis on recent results. /hfz/ got 2nd in VTL1, 5th in VTL2, and under this system they get virtually no credit for that anymore. A team's point total is all of the points earned during the previous league and then half of the points from the league before that carry over and add to your point total.
There's lots of weird shit about the way this system works. Because /chama/ was a brand new team in VTL3 and therefor was worth basically nothing in terms of opposition multiplier, /chama/ gained more ranking points for losing the VTL3 final than /tsunX/ gained for winning it.

Yes. I don't know how obscure this info is but from my brief exploration his name was never on the wiki page. His tenure was essentially to follow a pastebin made by one of the other managers at the time. This resulted in one of the matches with the most changes in the VGL.

I think this is probably how /vg/ got to the place they are with their roster. The parallels are definitely there in terms of a lack of overall culture. I can only speak for myself but I try to have a few ideas in my back pocket, if you can't think of anything particular to make against the team you'll be facing then try focusing on your thread and/or the team's journey, making a promo for the thread isn't a bad idea, show off your thread's OC somehow or highlight big moments. These kinds of hypes are good for the knockouts when you don't have any idea who you'll be facing. Another idea is to make a full hype ahead of time where you can somehow swap in your opponent relatively quickly without much editing, the short shitposty hypes lend themselves to that pretty well.

It can get harder and harder to do hyp as the cup progresses. For groups you usually have a week or two to plan hyp. For Ro16 you've usually got at least a day, if not a full week. Once the brackets are down to Semis, the tournament progresses full steam, and you're down to about 18 hours tops to make hyp, likely only having an hour or two.
Plus, if your hyp is being done as a group effort, you have to consider schedule alignment on top of everything else.
