Despite the general fail in their matches, I'm genuinely impressed how they managed to salvage a patchy start to actually-decent matches. Their biggest L is literally comms, and I wish they can figure that out, since they're pretty decent at the game anyway.

It seems like once you get into the final collapsing circle the game just becomes RNG. There was basically nothing they could have done to survive in that situation because the circle collapse put a team on their flank while forcing them to try moving across open ground to survive. I think the genre would be much more fair if the final circle didn't collapse to 0, but instead they just added a strict time limit to the of the game. So it turns into a cage match with a tiny but also static boundary for teams to duke it out for podium positions.

There was an interesting spin on the final circle in Ring of Elysium. You could escape in a helicopter with limited space, but while climbing up the rope to get out you could be shot so generally you'd want to play it safe and kill everyone first. But I won games with my whole squad where we just made it out while others were fighting, or one of us made it out while the rest were dead. It led to some interesting games. I don't know if other battle royales do anything like that though, nor do I know anything about Apex.
