I agree it hasn't allowed US workers to do that, but the potential is still there. The decades of child murder would happen anyways (most mass shooters are known by law enforcement ahead of times and they just do nothing, most shooters are ideologically motivated and would use vehicles in the absence of guns), and people would just suicide with drug overdoses instead because life in the US is hell; guns are just the easiest way out with the lowest chance of surviving after getting crippled.

Unless Americans are particularly prone to child murder this doesn't explain why the alternative mass murder theory doesn't seem to apply in countries with low citizen gun adoption.

I'm not a particularly depressive person but there has been a moment or two where, if I had a gun, I would have been holding it and having a serious think about whether to give up or not. I didn't jump or drug myself instead, but pulling the trigger might've been too quick and easy and guaranteed that I wouldn't have allowed myself to recover.
