backseating is like mandatory for this game. Because 1, a streamer will not give this 100% of their attention because they're streamers first and foremost and 2, yeah the tutorials are fucking terrible.

Anyone here catch Selen during this part? God that was horrible on all accounts, streamer and chat.

I don't think I can bare to watch the Rose play this game because of MGR's shortcomings, also because most people aren't used to this genre.

That really sounds like an enjoyable experience. Hell, I remember that technically the actual hardest difficulty was Very Hard and not Revegeance, because if you know how to parry, Revegeance is a cake walk, all the enemies take massive damage from parried attacks.
I'm wondering if the parry timing is more harsh on PC, I only played on PS3, but I want to say the parrying mechanism was properly explained and with a generous window.

Oh yeah, I didn't want to bring it up much to stay on topic, but Selen's stream was really bad around this part with chat both giving false info and just yelling at Selen to do the tutorials. She then went and did the post-tutorial challenges for like 20 minutes just to spite chat, making the first 2 hours or so of the stream almost unbearable.
Rosemi by comparison is doing much better by, at the very least, staying positive and showing interest in learning the game and also by actually being better at the game.

Meant to say it doesn't sound enjoyable at all. The game would feel like mashing at that point. I also was very surprised people fought and beat Sundowner without taking out his shields.
I really don't know why Rising clicked with me the way it did, but I was left wanting more. I found Sam to be 2x as fun to play as Raiden, but I was autistically bothered he had the zandatsu mechanic that was literally specifically designed for Raiden's new body.

I found Sekiro to be much harder than Rising, and the parry mechanic much less forgiving and really rhythm focused. I guess on a first run they're kinda similar, but without Kuro's Charm it's a different ball game.
But yes, I really like Sekiro, I think it's my second favorite of the Souls-like. I tend to enjoy BB and Sekiro the most, I think Fromsoft does a better job making a combat system that demands you master it rather than creating a more flexible system that allows for build variety but is less focused.

Yeah, the poking at the chat was too much and made me uncomfortable (I'm a pussy). the second half of the stream was much better. I get why she got mad at the chat but still, the tutorial did ended up teaching her how to do better. Rosemi is learning quickly so after a rough-ish start I think we're good.

Yeah, you get what I mean. If you break it down both games are "attack until enemy presses a button and you block/parry back." While you can break down every action game to that level, these two stand out a bit more. And yeah, Rising is definitely easier with the shitloads of invincibility and zandatsu mechanics on top of blocking/parries being frame 1 animation cancels unlike in Sekiro

I should have clarified, while trying to understand the story, while streaming and reading chat and trying to make commentary, it’s a lot of split focus for a very fast paced game+story. When you have the mechanics down it gets a lot easier like she did after doing the tutorials and beat bladewolf.

other Platinum games like Bayonetta and Wonderful 101 are also a bit overwhelming when it comes to combat, but I don't remember those being as bad as MGR when it comes to actually teaching the player the main mechanics. What kind of parrying tutorial lets you kill the enemy without using a parry at all? Those "Do X move 3 times!" tutorials are boring but they at least teach you stuff.
Speaking of Platinum games, kinda, has Rosemi brought up Okami? It could be fun to watch but it's a very long game.

Agreed, the other games can be more complex (or less in cases like transformers), but none of them are as bad at teaching as MGRR.
Rosemi playing Okami would be absolutely awesome and kino if she could get perms. I think she would love it, story wise, mechanics wise, artistically and with its good pacing

Well, there's those cool and tiny 8-bit Do controllers. They're pretty good too.
But yeah, she really can't seem to justify buying an official controller at today's prices.
While the whole penny pinching part would make her into a good mother, it's kinda hurting her streaming career. Especially when she goes out of her way on spending way more on stuff like acrylic stands.

I don't remember her saying that especially when her hands are bigger than pomu's and she plays things with controller just fine, I think it's a mix of her being more of a KBM gamer and her unwillingness to spend money like how she complained that buying SSBU would be 80 bucks for her. This is the controller, it's like one of the cheapest ones on Amazon and one you have to put a button combo in to pair to the switch, which I think is the reason why she was always so hesitant to switch off her joycons to the controller because it does take a second, it's not seamless like a real pro controller. She was kinda forced to for Skyward Sword though. If anything I wish she would get an xbox controller for her PC games, I think it would help her a lot in the long run.
