Feh's arena was perfect. The system, in a nutshell meant that it didnt matter if you had a uberbuffed/broken unit because countering and actual brain usage was way more important.
They introduced aether raids and the game went down the drain, it was either unbreakable setups that you couldnt answer in time or whaled units designed to act like killer squads. Units started being released to match those powerlevels and focused on Aether Raids and it was over.

From a gameplay's perspective? Since I'm not a whale, I like how challenging it can get. For example, farming was a challenge for me, since I didn't get any NP Gauge supporters until Skadi came out. Hell, I got Castoria before I got Waver.
I had to use grails to strengthen lower-tier servants just so I could farm "optimally", and even then it was a challenge still; that also got me attached to the characters. Then there's the challenge quests/harder story fights. If you don't use guides, they're pretty interesting. It's like building your own team to figure out how to solve a problem. I'm sure there's other gacha that feel similar in that aspect, but FGO was the first one I ever played, so I stuck with it. I enjoyed Arknights too, until playing both consumed too much of my time.
Overall, I admit the thing I enioy most is the characters. Using them in the game when I finally manage to summon them feels fantastic, like them answering the call when not even some whales can get them to do so.

that's the thing, the rewards are tiny, unlike in other gachas where you need to do it to farm resources to roll etc
you get 8k stamina a week from it, going with an example rank that you might reach vs whales here, while you make 30k stamina a day by default
the main resource that you get from pvp, gauntlet points for the shop, you can farm vs npc teams in pve "pvp" which is called strategy battle
they recently added a free skin to pvp, which apparently will be a new one each season, but that is also on a relatively easy to reach rank
so if you care about missing out, you can farm your way up there or ignore it like most do
if you make it to masters (3rd highest rank level but lots of air up still) once, then you're also basically guaranteed to get every free skin, as on season reset you can only fall back down to masters
so at the most, you will have to suffer through pvp climbing once, to reach that safe spot

guess that post got longer than expected, sorry for that. i also want to add, that counterside is one of the more generous gachas and has skip on missions by default and FREE (after first 3 star clear ofc) so you're also not wasting hours on it or need to farm skip tickets like in others

It's not that bad rewards-wise. Allow me to run it down for you.
There are two PVP modes. The first one is your team vs an AI defence team. This is a complete non-issue since the punishment for losing is nothing and many players use weak sandbag teams to help others climb, and by the end of each season everyone will have reached the max rank.
The real time PVP mode is more of a problem since the current update added more rewards to higher tiers and made it harder to climb at the same time, on top of adding a new character strengthening system that appeals to whales. Pic related is the rewards for a season, which is every two and a half months, so not very substantial (1 gacha pull = 150 diamonds). There are also weekly rewards of gems and stamina.
Getting to Gold 5 is trivial since you can't go down a rank. After that each time you go up to a new class you'll stay there for good, so you technically only need to get to Diamond once to get all future skins unless they change something.

The PVP also has a system of bans and ups, where characters that dominate PVP in a week get increased costs in the next weak, and characters that rarely get used get lowered costs and increased stats. This can be bad for new players since you won't have that many units and the ones you use could get banned, but it also means meta units aren't allowed to dominate PVP forever and people have to change their teams each week to work around it.

You can tell by my rank that I basically ignored PVP until the recent update added the skin reward for it.

In my fit of ire I forgot to mention about my opinion on the actual quality of the Febaerary streams (making it seem like I thought they weren't as good) which I'd honestly say was no-doubt amazing, the offcollabs were kino and the shitpost streams were funny, I personally don't think her solo streams suffered too much (but then again by solo I mean zatsus and Purseownar).
