Would it be worth it to stream on Kick over twitch? It has far less competition but I don't know if it would kill my discoverability since it's still new.

Found a new way to get followers on twitch. Not very fast but it has got me some of my most dedicated viewers, and it's a passive way to promote your channel which is basically impossible normally using just twitch.

3 steps.
1. stream very very nich games, games that almost nobody ever plays on twitch. Old games, weirdo games, indie games, fan games, hobby games, games without fuckin icons uploaded for them. Stuff that one person will play in a month at most. YOU WILL NOT GET VIEWERS FROM PLAYING THIS GAME, THIS IS OK
2. Watch through your vod and make both highlights and clips of some good moments of the stream. This is vitally important, you want this video to stay up as long as possible and normal vods get deleted pretty quick.
3 Sit back and let your highlight/clips be at the top of the search on twitch for any rando who decides to search for somebody streaming some random niche eclectic game that they like. I get followers all the time that can only have come from this method (I don't promote myself outside of twitch at all, and often get new followers for reasons that are otherwise unexplainable). And best of all it allows you to cultivate an audience that likes watching you play weird unpopular and eclectic games.

I'm not a chuuba, but I did stream for a bit as a hobby last year. The only time I broke past the 1view barrier was when I streamed Chroma Squad and accidentally discovered step 1. I picked it just because I really liked the game and hadn't realised that I was literally the only one streaming it. I had 4 or 5 people comment about how much they loved the game in chat. This is superb advice.

I've been browsing around for a chuuba to saviourfag, but every streamer I find on youtube with a female model either speaks Japanese only, or has a deeper voice than I do. Is this a good place to find groomer-ready chuubas?

I don't want to groom. I just think it'd be nice to build a relationship with a streamer and a tranny isn't someone I would want to associate with.

Look for eclectic games that amassed a cult-like following but may not have been that big in the main stream, or at least not big enough to last in the eyes of the mainstream. I would probably look for stuff that isn't an rpg or story-heavy game for obvious reasons. Look for something that would be easy to drop in and out of as a viewer. Ask yourself, "would I be okay watching a stream that's 5 hours deep into this game and not miss any context to what's happening?"

Off the top of my head, strategy games like xcom and its ilk would be a good target. Something with high re-playability like FTL would be good too since you could milk it. That's the main reason why streamers just love streaming Minecraft. No Man's Sky could be an alternative choice for replayability, but normies still have a bad taste in their mouth from its launch.

Going back to FTL, it wouldn't be a superb choice for other reasons. It needs the viewer to have a decent understanding of what's going on to appreciate it whereas something like CoD is just braindead for a viewer to understand. Hollowknight-ish games wouldn't be bad. Easy to understand, good cult following, and the story really isn't required for a viewer to have fun with. Changing gears again, Tower Defense games offer good strategy, don't require the viewer to have a deep understanding, and offer high replayability. To go another step, I think Dungeon of the Endless could be a sleeper hit for a vtuber. It has all of the above and is fondly remembered by the people that enjoy those games. (At least, I fondly remember it.) Moonlighter would be another excellent choice. Perhaps either of the Risk of Rain games, but you'd be straying a bit from the formula I'm concocting here. Serious Sam, perhaps, would be a good choice too. Many older gamers just fuckin love those games, but no zoomer would know them. I forgot to mention them, but rogue-style games are an obvious shoe in for the "high-replayability" section. They also don't generally need complex understanding of their mechanics and almost always come with a fan base.

I dunno. I'm not a chuuba, so take everything I just said with a grain of salt. I'm just kind of good at theorycrafting and I think these games wouldn't be a bad start. I would suggest looking for games yourself and applying this criteria instead of taking my examples as law. I just pulled those games from memory/looking at my own steam library. Sorry for the rant/disjointed lines of thought. I hope this helped. If anyone wants to critique my ideas/suggestions here, please do. I'm curious about what you all think.

If you can get it to work I would recommend Tonic Trouble. I say "if" because I couldn't manage to make it run on windows 7 the last time I tried, 5 years ago.
It's a good game for that era, the mechanics are interesting.

Honestly there are a ton of games that work well for this kind of thing. Here are a few of the things I look for ideally.

1. Look for short games or games that you wont be streaming more than once or twice. This strategy requires you to spread your net wide, and you want to be the top search result for highlights or clips for as many games as you can. Streaming more than one of these games in a stream might even be a good idea if you can.
2. Games with lots of clippable moments. Story based games are ok for this if they are short, or bizarre/buggy games. If you are good at reacting and making memorable moments you can do this with any game though. If you are lazy you can just highlight your entire stream. this may or may not be worse than highlighting specific parts, I haven't experimented enough to say myself
3. Games that twitch streamers stream at least less than once a week. You want to stay at the top of the search result for at least a week, and staying up for months is not impossible with many games. Ideally you want to play games that are both popular and unstreamed, but these two metrics are usually directly related to each other.

Another strategy that might work well along with this one is to shill yourself on game specific discords when playing these kinds of games. Some of these communities are very hungry to have semi-competent streamers stream their niche games so you might get a lot of interest from some communities. Not all games suitable for this strategy will have a dedicated discord, so sometimes you can shill yourself on genre dedicated discords instead. I just recommend reading the discord rules and making sure its ok to shill yourself first.

This probably would work well as a long term strategy for people who play a lot of different retro games. Probably the tradeoff will be that you get fewer tourist viewers who stop by while browsing retro, but in exchange you may get more followers weeks after the stream ends. Maybe there is a way to offset this by using tags to further advertise that you are a retro game player. My tag game is pretty weak so I cant say.

Typically people make clips for two reasons 1) because they saw something memorable and want to remember it or show it to others 2) you're a moderately large channel and they want to circulate clips of your content, edited (usually) to generate their own content.

Cooksie and Pierre run huge clipping channels (in coordination with the streamers) to produce whole channels worth of clips. Most twitch clips are "funny thing happened, quick push the button to show a friend." There's no harm in casually reminding people that the clip feature exists, especially on youtube where user clipping is a very new feature.

been following some jap vtubber on youtube for a few months now since she debuted. only lurking, nothing else. her concurrent views rarely ever break past 31. usually it's anywhere between 12 to 21 and most of those seem to just be men who are hoping to date her or something by just being an active chatter on her streams. she had live chats with her viewers like two times and when i heard their voices, they sounded exactly like those types of socially inept, stereotypical fat otakus you'd think of or see portrayed in different places. she seemed a bit put off by it but continued to act like she usually does in a nice way and all that.

some random retards also tried to start shit with her when youtube had some kind of glitch happening a few months back where the display of subs was all fucked, some people would be shown to have less subs than they had, others would be shown to have more than they actually have and she got hit by that for a few days before the sub count reset, but she immediately got accused of sub botting. lol

I don't think that we would necessarily see the same things as improvements; moreover, I don't know much about the history so there aren't many specific changes or additions that I could recommend. You said that you want to your character to be a scribe but the costume you described doesn't really evoke that for me. I think its important for major traits to be readable at a glance and for each aspect to work together cohesively and also to take into account what your audience will think of when they see the costume. The interesting part about a statement like this is that “effort” is a bit subjective. It’s easy to put hard work into something but if the result sucks it sucks and nobody is going to watch a stream that’s boring. I can easily point to vtubers like Kabhaal, Grimmi, or Papi that put effort into playing characters and their efforts are rewarded because the result is good. Aside from the official tutorials on the live2d site, there's Brian Tsui's video course with tutorials on the different parts to rig and the live2d discord with miscellaneous tips on different things and an overview of the rigging course. You can also just look for youtube videos on whatever specific part you're working when you get stuck. I find the free version of live2d cubism to be extremely limiting in what you can rig but for the absolute bare minimum it might be enough. I'm practicing rigging on whatever free models I can find and it's really tough, webm related. I see why riggers charge so much when it took me at least 5 hours to rig eyes alone to a presentable state.
I found this video gives the best overview on every part of an average model and a decent explanation on basic rigging for each.

if you look around enough online you can find people who are willing to do work for free, probably not something as intensive as fully illustrating and rigging a model for you but you can definitely find people willing to do ideation sketches (but don't expect them to be particularly high quality). Maybe try looking at some draw threads or request threads on other boards, you could check twitter for artists as well, and if your university has a decent art department you could probably find other poor students willing to work for relatively cheap.
I'm not saying to scam artists but if someone offers their services for free or cheap you might as well take advantage.
You could maybe try fucking around with AI stuff as well but I haven't really used it so I'm not sure how well it's going to work for this particular purpose.

I can pass as a cute boy IRL, but never small (curse the masculine jawline). The model wouldn't be the worst and personally I have no problem with shota art either, but more with the people it attracts. My friend is like THE perfect shota character out of the box unintentionally (despite being late twenties) and has gotten very unfunny interactions with extremely horny people (he's asexual).

It also changes the dynamic on stream to wrangling horny and just straight up unfunny interactions.
