My general reccomended build
Halui-More mods more EXP/Stamps/Anvils
Milk-Everyone benefits from AOE/Pick-up
Limiter-Near full screen pick-ups keep from constantly having to readjust constantly as new enemies die just outside reach. Use it to "Shrink" the playing field to manageable size

Those go on everyone generally then

Level up item-Either Glasses Smith Gear or Credit Card. All to effedctively provide more bang for Halus buck. Kaelas gear is the best of these but has high rarity

Offensive item-GWS Pill Energy Drink Mask Soda or GoriPaw to make you kill things better. A general build could fill the last two slot with Energy Drink and GWS for enough Haste/Crit for almost anyone if you arent worried about defense

Extra slot-If you dont have two offensive items you either need a support item like Horns for Choco/Mel/Sora or Bandage/Body Pillow depending on your kits ability to handle hits

Ina is so bad, I'm extremely confused. I can't figure out what it is she's supposed to be good at. She doesn't deal damage, so the enemies just pile up. Which sounds absurd, since all of her skills sound designed for taking on piles of enemies.

Ina also does particularly well once you get some area of effect/rapid hitting collabs (like Snow Flower Sake actually, but Flattening Board is great for her too due to being flat) because 4th Wah gives a guaranteed 2x damage every 4th hit, meaning she is functionally doing 1.25x damage overall. It's like having a level 2 gorilla paw build in.
Big groups also are wide open for insta-kills with Ancient One.
I think Ina is actually especially good with the Milk since it lets even more enemies be hit at once and even increases the size of the KO radius for Ancient One.

I struggle to even build a single collab and I don't even notice AO half the time. It can spawn on top of nothing, on top of bosses, on top of enemies I'm already killing. Maybe 25% of the time, it spawns on top of a pack of six or eight fans, and converts two of them. That's cool, it one-shot a couple fans, but now they're in the mosh pit pushing enemy fans towards me and I can't grab them unless I kill them first. In other words, it didn't do anything, since the attacks killing those guys would've killed them, too, anyway.

It just feels like she doesn't do damage and she's slow. I think the idea is to build her fast and tanky, but that doesn't sound viable anymore since the game has now become about dodging projectiles and surviving inside "unkillable" blockades.

You ult, and it pushes enemies back for a couple seconds, and then it's over. It doesn't kill and they just walk right back. And there's probably so many of them that knockback does actually nothing, since you can't knock them through other fans or something, so they all just sit there waiting for you to stop spinning. And the most retarded thing is this is completely contradictory to her Void skill. She has a close proximity skill, so why would she want to knock enemies away?

If I try to rush a collab, I die 8 minutes in at the self-destructing Sucorn. If I build for items, either tanky or damage, I can maybe get to Nodoka, but then she rapes me.

Ao-chan's great but only shows real power later when there's tons of enemies, they help pick up XP though. What I usually prioritize is her first collab and the tentacle, then work on the others. You want to give her some healing, Choco horns work well thanks to AO chan's instakill and plushie later on will help you survive. Aside from that I always pick Halu5, and try to always pick knight milk, energy drink for haste, and something to buff damage, but tend to focus on maxing collabs before maxing items.
For the stamps pick stuff that debuffs/stuns, and lifestamp if you're having trobule surviving. Explosion is also good since the area of the tentacles is huge and the blasts can proc the status effects as well.

Honestly that's it pretty much. I'd like to try playing her with the fandom/grank bonuses turned off but I don't think it should be impossible even without them.

What I used to do before the update (and I have no reason to believe isn't effective anymore) was trying to fish for Halu as the first item. Then i tryed to upgrade the weapon alternating with halu and maybe a skill thay i think was a damage upgrade. With Halu @5 and Weapon @7, focus on build the collab (sually broken dreams but i think in this patch snow flower sake is equally good), focus in one skill that suits me, and one item that help me to do damage (or if you found the blacksmith gear grab it). Usually at the minute 6 i finished the collab and could wipe the crowd of GuyRyS and from them it starts to snowballing in your favour.

I can't control what items appear, so I picked the best ones I could. I got plug right at the start, so I thought I'd build Dragonfire, but I never saw fanbeam. One roll I got garbage, but I knew I'd want spider cooking eventually, so I grabbed it. That's all.

Also, work towards collabs instead of building two random weapons all the way up. I have a hard time believing you got that far without seeing Lava Bucket, CEO Tears, EN Curse, Holobomb, or Fan Beam. You don't have to be super picky about getting the exact weapons you want in stage mode as long as you finish your first collab reasonably fast.

Shop upgrades aren't the issue, he has more than the recommended minimum. Item selection is the problem. No one else has mentioned it yet, but the feather is a wasted level up that just lets you die a second time after dying because you didn't take a weapon or useful defensive item. You can't even die on purpose to remove it from your bar like the tiramisu in VS.

I have plenty of coins. I turned G Rank off and only buy as many upgrades as I feel I need to beat the latest, hardest stage. I've determined that five of each upgrade is enough. It's enough for Gura, Amelia, Irys, Kiara, Calli, Fubuki, Baelz, Sana, Kronii, Fauna, Mumei and Mio. I suspect it will also be enough for all the others.

Except Ina. Every single one of them have "low stats," so how did I win with them and not Ina? There's two possibilities: either Ina sucks or the way I play is incompatible with Ina. I'm willing to accept either, but buying more upgrades won't answer anything.

What I think is going on here is that I've run into the problem of Ina being one of the worst characters, which is something you specifically (and maybe everyone else in the thread) can't see because you've buffed your characters so much that even the weakest one trivializes the hardest challenge. Meanwhile, I'm at the threshold, where my buffs are just enough to elevate everyone but the worst character.

You might be right that I suck at the game, but you haven't answered why this only applies to Ina. Apparently, you can make compounding mistakes and poor decision making and still win as every character EXCEPT Ina - but Ina isn't bad or anything, you just have to have a very high IQ to play her. :^)

You're right, I just did a run as her where I built Broken Dreams relatively quickly and it shredded through enemies. I don't really get why. Nodoka still killed me, though. I guess I have to be very, very specific about what I build on this character (who is not bad, by the way).

Took me only 16 fucking seconds to obliterate them and I'm doing it by your rule. +50% Atk from Membership so base 30%, I even refunded fandom because I thought you also didn't have it, guess I was wrong. +20% Haste and +50% Spd from Energy Drink, so base 20% Haste and 30% Spd, Energy Drink was my first item. Also 5 rerolls and 5 eliminates, eliminate all used up by now.
I have no problem saying that Ina is definitely in a weird spot right now since she just got tweaked, but your original statement of her being so bad definitely ain't it, you just kinda suck at itemizing.

I finally tried out the new Ina to see how underpowered she really is. I disagree that she's bad, but I at least understand why people say that now. She's really weak early on. Her tentacle has really pitiful single target damage that only ends up doing good dps when it's awakened and Forbidden Wah is multiplying the damage against large hordes. She technically has built in healing from takodachis, but you can't always chase them down in an emergency and it's possible to die a few feet away from your FATASS. Stage 2 also fucks her because it's much harder to herd the takos into a FATASS without accidentally touching him or taking excessive damage. In my first run I got Shackles early and she felt really OP with all the extra damage from Facemask and Injection. I think that she would actually be really good in endless because once she starts stacking haste and crit the damage from Wah should increase exponentially. I don't really have time to test that theory today though. Overall I'd rate her as meh; she's at least two tiers away from elite, but she's also not a dumpster fire like Shion and Matsuri.

I've never once considered picking ANY defensive items whenever I'm playing stage mode, and even Endless stage if I'm not planning to do YAGOO endurance run. For patterns like that one where the bullets are all fired directly at you the best dodge is to take small, perpendicular steps. But my biggest defense for both is that I'm going to die to Nodoka's bullets. I'm not sure how you guys deal with her, but I can't get within my weapon's reach of her without eating bullets, and there's almost no staff on the screen to lifesteal. So I can kinda' dance with her once and then, if I don't run away to lifesteal HP, it's a huge risk to stay near her.

Do you guys stay close to her and just dodge everything? Or do you run when she does the cross pattern attack?

I will say, my Ina runs became a lot of better when I made one change: I intentionally kept mini-bosses within Void range. I hadn't prioritized it before because I was afraid of getting point-blank shot in the face, but in my last few runs I sucked it up and stayed right next to them the whole time, and they usually melted. I can't do that against Nodoka, though.

Gorilla is another one I would never use unless I was doing a Shackles run. How I fight Nodoka somewhat depends on my character, but my default strategy is to keep about a screen's width of distance during the swirls and the criss crossing bullets and wear her down with Bone Bros or Dragonfire. Unless my character has built in dodge I take 1-2 damage reduction items and build up some HP with items or stat upgrades so that I don't get burst down if I fuck up a dodge.

I initially did a build focusing on maxxing her crit rate but it didn't work out for me at all. I thought using sake and avoiding hits made sense since her down-under skill stuns opponents. I switched over to a build which spams her special, which meant using piki piki and getting hit on purpose. Complete 180 in tactics, and it worked well enough.

If you do what I did, make sure you get weapons that can get rapidly thrown out by her special. That means avoid BL and spider cooking, try lava buckets, psycho axes, bombs, and cutting boards. Make her synergize with Idol Costume, Towa Hat, Headphones, and her own Piggy Bank item. Four fairly unpopular items that need more love.

Playstyle: Sorta kinda reverse Sana. She's pulling you in, like Gravity. AoE suction with a strong pointblank explosion similar to Matsuris God but smaller and more powerful and applies a stun at the end.
Passives will naturally be focused on damage reduction and healing, also better damage the closer the target is.
Since moona is a fat fuck who likes burgers she'll have a passive that gives her a shield for each external food item she consumes based on amount healed. Hopefully this gives Full Meal and Ubersheep more value.
Special: High Tide - her basic attack on steroids. 3 sec invincibility, screenwide pull and pointblank nuke. Slightly Fast Recharge

Playstyle: Debuff based character with a basic attack that changes on pickups
Primary Weapon: Paintbrush - melee weapon that hits in an arc.
Passive: Painter. In one of her passives it may cause different cans of paint to drop. Grabbing paint causes different enchantments to the weapon based on the color.
Pink - strong poison DoT that spreads to nearby enemies ending in an explosion.
Green - gives iofi a HP leech effect.
Blue - 1 second stun + knockback with each swing.
Special: Full Color - 8 second steroid. Iofi gains haste, and all 3 colors will be activated for the duration. Slow recharge

>Ollie:
Playstyle: Living Dead tank with limited melee range.
Passives: Zomily - chance to convert kills to zombie minions (Think offensive takodachis / bats) that deal damage.
Living Dead - Does not die when reaching 0 HP. Once at 0 HP she needs to get back to full HP before x seconds have passed or she just completely dies.
Special: Dead may not die - Cannot be activated normally. Can only be activated at 0 HP. Steroid with +ATK HASTE and SPEED. Also with an inbuilt Nurse horn effect with kills giving her health back.
Attacks have a chance to auto-kill non boss enemies instantly turning them into zombies.
Recharge n/a. Usable as soon as HP reaches 0. has a x second cooldown in between activations so that it isn't TOO cheesy.

>Reine:
Playstyle: Wind Based Enhancement / Magic Warrior that can shift between two stances.
Special: Enter / Exit Wind - shifts Reine in between Enter Wind (quick melee brawler with 3x damage crits) and Exit Wind (keep away mage with knockback / lifesteal). Fast recharge.
Passives: Joinda - stat ups based on number of enemies on screen. GWS - Increased Evade in brawler mode, and lifesteal in mage mode. Enhances effect of GWS by removing the special condition and adding +20% crit damage up.

Passive: Stormcaller - %chance in calling down lightning from the heavens within around 600px range of Kobo scales with haste. Auto-crit (Gorilla Paw hello) and higher chance on triggering on "wet" enemies.
Pendecc - basically indonesian version of gura's short. And another that increases haste and crit dmg.
Special: Raincaller - Healing Rain that gives Kobo a massive shield equivalent to 3x of her max health. leaves puddles of water on the ground. Enemies who walk into the puddles will get the "wet" debuff. Slightly Fast recharge.

>Kaela:
Playstyle: Snowballing / Farming character like Roboco, but based around blacksmithing and money instead of exp. Greed Stamp + Supachatto might be mainstays even in non farm runs.
Passive: Blacksmiths Blessing - +30% flat increase in refine chance, each refine adds +10% attack, down from +20% normally, refine costs are now -30%. Millionaire Grinder - Gain double gold from all sources, bonus stats based on current held gold.
Item Hoarder - has chance to not use up item (applies to anvils, holobox, food), and slightly better chances for super items in Holoboxes
Primary Weapon: Auto-Turret - On Clicking. Kaela Plants down a stationary turret that shoots bullets automatically. May relocate turret with a 1 sec cooldown.
Awakening: Turret has different effects based on upgrade value with a new special effect appearing every 7th level.
Awakening 0 - Turret now also shoots AoE bombs, Awakening +7 - Bombs come out faster and inflict a stun, Awakening +14 - kaela may now place 2 turrets etc.. etc...Cap at 35.

Passives: Agent Pon - every 15 seconds may trigger one of two buffs. "Agent" - +xx% on stats +evasion% chance. "Pon" -xx% on all stats +exp gain. As you level up the passive the % chance of landing on the "Agent" buff goes higher.
Smokebomb - every x seconds - throws a smokebomb at her feet dealing AOE dps and increasing evasion. Another passive focuses on stats.

Speaking from personal experience Card fails to pay for itself in stage and most of the extra anvils get wasted if you pair it with Blacksmith due to diminishing success rate. Blacksmith + Halu is the best anvil combo.

Yes, that is my thought as well.
Blacksmith gets the full anvil increase benefit immediately and is only 3 levels total, which will also increase your collab power too if you want more than just levels.
Halu gives you over a dozen more levels but also gives you more than double the amount of anvils and stamps from all the extra enemies being defeated.

I thought of a good set for Ollie.

Basic is a simple sword melle attack.

Skill 1, Step on me: Gains stacking speed/dmg buff when not on full HP that slowly decreases if healed to full (like a reverse Kronii perfection)
Skill 2, Zombie Idol: If you die you stay alive for a limited time and gain vamp but health quickly drains unless you hit full. (like Sion's passive from LOL but you can live if you do enough dmg)
Skill 3, ALL CAPS: bonus dmg for very close range.
Special: Kureiji mode: big dmg/haste/crit buff but brings you down to 1HP.

High risk melle playstyle, encourages alternate builds to the norm.

They have heal vs damage gimmick but their ultimate playstyle is different. Choco has Crit Heal=Damage, her main weapon is a Marth tipper of all things, and she's a mind control character. Mel actually has an enemy aggro lure and she's a homing projectile character.

Doesn't seem like she would be that bad, just wasteful. She has a built in 100% dodge skill and a skill that also causes large damage when dodging.
Can see the obvious set up from your kit too, using the Chestplate to both reduce damage but also make it so the dodges do even more damage and headphones to enable further dodging. Her tail attack is also good for a couchpotato as it hits all around and can even summon up extra hits.

Mel is better for tanking as she has a closer range attack, Choco can tank but it is wasteful as you are missing out on a huge 50% damage multiplier if you don't maintain proper spacing. Choco's heals are mostly just an excuse to deal damage, she's closer to someone like Sora than she is to Mel.
