Most of the things that are generally called "AI" in casual conversation are some form of a neural network, and neural networks don't really have a 'memory' in a concrete sense - large enough ones can appear to by following patterns over long past and future weightings but you'll understand a lot of the issues with machine learning in general better if you take a peek at their basic function - I promise it's not too hard to understand if you sit down and take the time to watch a clear explanation

The issue here would be that what's "important" vs unimportant would require it's own criterions and when you really think about it an ai smart enough to understand what a huma* thinks is important enough to remember or not would on some level have to be a general intelligence... I'm not saying that it won't happen in some form but the problem of "getting language models to understand context instead of just putting out words on a probability curve with no backing besides their model weights" is a shockingly tough ask, you're asking the model to stop just patterning language and to understand what language *corresponds* to in a human value system and I can't even begin to imagine a computationally viable way to map that all out

This is the main thing language models right now are lacking, they simulate in-the-moment memory of some message count (and that can be increased by just allotting more vram) but they have no way to value judge what's important and put it into the compressed drawer, and then pull it back out later

Thats what I had in mind, along with some simple trigger scenarios that seem standard. shit like first dates, arguments, traumatic events. everything else could be fine tuned, like them remembering for favorite breakfast that you talked about a while ago and you waking up to them having made it. shit like that would need to be fine tuned though. and obviously per instance instead for some unless its def based info, could help with making sure characters stay in line with the defs longer.

I'm just following along with a tutorial someone else made and playing with values a bit while also trying to understand at least most of the code I'm retyping. This particular model looks at 8x8 resolution images of handwritten numbers and tries to guess the digit - I got it to 92% acc at first and 94% after messing around with layer sizes and learning steps some more.

As for how long, this is only day 2 of spending a little while each evening for me but I'm coming from a background that included python courses.

My goal going forward is to fuck around with language models and maybe help pygdev but even if I come out of this exploration with nothing more than a slightly better understanding of machine learning I'll call it time well spent.

Re-shilling my Maid Aqua Tavern card.
I need someone else to test her for me if she actually work properly.
I have hard time keeping her to refer herself as "ateshi". If she doesn't refer herself with ateshi in each of her previous message even once, she will go back to using normal speech and it become very hard to get her to go back to refer herself as ateshi. I need someone to help me to come up with solution for this problem. For now, I use the scenario token to make her hate using the word I, I am, me, etc but that doesn't seem to do much.

I was actualy referring to the message itself. Since while I do delete the clearly repeated message, I still keep the other intact. In 1.2.6 my character keep giving response that feels redundant. Stuff like: "She blushed as she look at your face. Her face become red as she keep looking down. She fidget and has a hard time looking into your eye. Her body red because she feels embarassed" and things like that all in one message. I don't delete stuff like that since I though it might not affect much. But it seems to keep writing stuff like that after upgrading to 1.2.7 and even repeating the same message like in 1.2.6. And yes, creating a new chats in 1.2.7 fixed them.

That makes sense. Maybe the summarized version of the text could work as the "long-term" memory while whatever cai's doing now could continue as the short-term memory. Add a sprinkle of sentiment analysis and it should work similar to human memories. From the example, for the short term memory it'd be:

And for the long term it'd be

In the immediate conversation following the email, the bot would be able to recall the details about it, but past a certain limit, it'd just retain the fact that Brian did in fact send an email asking for the job, and that he was professional about it

Use the video in the OP. Basically you run the pyg 6b model in a colab cloud notebook, and use tavern as a front end to edit and import characters (just import the 400x600 card image and it gets the description metadata).

Matrixfag here. The first checkpoint of V7 has now been pushed to the dev branch of HuggingFace. This checkpoint is the model after it has gone through 10% of our new, massive dataset, containing among other things new sources of data such as instructional datasets. You can access it by using the "Pygmalion 6B Dev" option in Kobold/Tavern. From what we can tell, it's sadly not too different from V6 in terms of response length, but the instructional data seems to have made the model more coherent and able to reason with things. However, obviously, the full potential of the model hasn't been seen yet. Please experiment and give us feedback regarding it - this is new for all of us here, still. Feel free to play around with prompts, settings, etc. You can find our logbook describing the process of training V7 and changelog from V6 at https://github.com/PygmalionAI/logbooks/blob/master/2023-02-14.md, which is also the entirety of picrel.

We're definitely looking into going beyond 6B, but running it would be a challenge - 6B barely fits onto a 3090/4090, anything beyond that would be basically impossible to use locally. We'd have to find ways such as 8-bit optimization that lets people run these bigger models on their own GPUs and Colab. As for money, we're not taking donations right now, and I'll let you all know first if that ever changes.

A super buffed up version of that is likely the future.
GPT3 isn't scalable at all, it is hitting the limits of reasonable response times and costs.
A huge lorebook DB stored in obscene amounts of RAM and SSDs with a solid textual analysis AI will be vastly superior and scale a lot easier. They will have sure learned a lot from ChatGPT, which is why they made it in the first place.
Separating understanding communication from understanding data will be the way forward. Raw data doesn't need to be in an LLM, it's pointless.
I assume that's what they will do with 4 since 3 was essentially "throw shit at the wall" to see how far they could take it.
