I honestly don't think Shizuka Rin was as big of a loss as people expected tbqh.
This was back in 2018, chuubing wasn't that well developed, and Nijisanji in particular was trying a "new thing" (livestreaming).
Foreign tourists killing off your native fanbase could have EASILY killed Hololive as well (and almost did too, but HoloEN saved the day). So I can understand why Rin couldn't capitalize on her chance. It was waaay too early.

You know the ACTUAL missed opportunities?
Lulu and Gibara.
These were literally the only two people from Nijisanji who were getting pushed into the recommendations along with Hololive. And like all EOP audiences, they both had a "meme" going for them ("eldritch art student" for Lulu, "actual monkey screeching sounds" for Era).

Gibara left in early 2021 after a long-ass period of inactivity. Lulu left a few months later, again after a ton of hiatuses due to "stalkers" and Anycolor not letting her stream.
That basically killed the original EOP audience for Nijisanji.

And Hololive's audience migration was mostly "HoloJP clips --> HoloJP streams with LiveTV --> HoloEN --> Tourists flock in", Nijisanji's went like this -
