Some vtubers are actually talented and not drama whores or entitled e-girls. If you watch Japanese vtubers you will realize it.
The ones I follow (hololive, only JP but not all of them) are actually talented, endearing, hardworking, humble, charming, grateful toward their fans and are always trying to improve themselves.
Then you turn into any western streamer (be it vtuber or regular streamer) and you get the entitled e-thot formula.
I speak Japanese and I got into the fandom with other nips and the experience is honestly so, so different from anything else I’ve experienced. As a fan you really want them to achieve everything and they overwork themselves and do a lot of shit they honestly don’t need to (because they’re rich) yet they still do it because they care, both about their job and their fans.

I’m not taking anything from her. I only wanted to answer why would someone support a vtuber by giving some insight as someone who can watch many sides of the spectrum (western streamer and vtuber vs JP streamer and vtuber).
While the JP streamers are cancer as western streamers (I can’t tell which is worse as I don’t really enjoy them to watch them that much) the difference between vtubers is outstanding. Japanese vtubers are generally very different than anything else (of course there are cunts but it’s generally very punishing to be like that in the medium: nips are very unforgiving with people who misbehave which contrasts with general western vtubing and streaming scene as these ones get enabled to oblivion and humiliating fans is a given).
A Japanese vtuber will never try to “educate” you, to “own” you, to humiliate you or to disrespect you. I know it sounds weird but they really don’t treat their fans like shit and that’s why a lot of them are so beloved.
