Dark Magician Girl Edition >What is /asp/?
/asp/ is a thread for vtubers to give and recieve advice related to vtubing

>Can i self post?
Self posting is allowed as long as it's for asking for feedback or starting out, there are other threads for self promotion

>Should i stream on Twitch or YouTube?
Most people would recommend against streaming on YouTube if you don't have an established subscriber base from making videos

>Is there an audience for X
Would you watch someone do X?
Is someone already doing X?

Day 11: I've been starting my stream later and later each day. My sleep cycle is out of whack.
Today I kind of fucked up, I was planning to do a shorter stream because my throat was sore but around the 2 hour mark I felt like I could finish the run under 3 hours. I got hard stuck on the final bosses and streamed 7 hours.
As a gamer that's alright, but as an entertainer that was downright awful; I stopped expressing myself and became deader than your parent's sex life. I do have a long stream planned next week but that felt awful without any chatters.

Bit of a tangent, but this reminds me of how it's impossible to grow as a streamer nowadays unless you market yourself in other platforms. It's all about posting on YouTube, Reddit, TikTok, etc. Kind of sucks that you have to spend quite a bit of your time playing the social media game to grow.

I'm in the same camp, 9 out of 10 people i reach out to on the internet like that, maybe even 49 out of 50 or something like that. Most of the time they don't have the social energy left to accomodate you but they genuinely don't want to just tell you that directly. Very few people will admit it outright. You have to decide for yourself if they are worth putting time into. I usually just move on after a while and put that energy into talking to new people. If you get lucky you find someone who sticks. From all the /asp/ies I've talked to in over a year only 2 i really talk to on a friend basis, everyone else basically didn't care for me, I consider this normal though. Another reason is that my charisma is naturally low (which also reflects itself in my streaming results). I'll have to make do with what I have. I don't blame anyone for not wanting to hang out with me.

It's chemistry, you rarely have a direct influence on it. How much someone enjoys talking to you depends on your sum of personality. Of course you can start acting differently to appear more appealing to different people but it rarely is sustainable and often creates the opposite effect. All you can do is cast your line and hope. No matter how many people end up ghosting / sandbagging / actively hate me, if after a hundred people I managed to make 1 friend i feel like it's still worth it. But i absolutely get it, sometimes it's a struggle.

Part of picking a design is also matching that design to you and what you intend to put out as a product. What do you intend to actually /do/ on your videos or streams, anon? Obviously if you're discussing any design as a "generic" design then its probably not something you have your heart on and should likely skip. If you're not into it your audience won't either. After that the considerations are the same you'd have about streaming in general:
1) what are you going to stream/make videos about
2) what type of personality are you intending the model to present towards that topic or content
3) who are you marketing your content to? Using your generics, anime boys and ikemen characters are generally two totally different markets with totally different dynamics

Don't pull yourself into the trap of hyperfocusing on the monetary and complexity value of a model before you've even set up your groundwork yet. You're picking drapes before you've even found a plot to build on.

This is true women certainly do have a very hard time growing after a certain point. I think if males did have an easier time advancing past those same milestones (I haven't seen any evidence of this mind you) its probably because basically all the poor quality males got stuck at 1view status and the few who actually got to 2view status are basically the cream of the crop at that point.

I wonder if its harder psychologically to have a relatively easy time getting to 2view status and then just hitting a massively hard wall and being unable to grow at all, or hitting a huge wall right at the start and then very slowly picking up steam after putting in a huge effort to grow that first amount. Females certainly do appear to quit quite a bit more than even males who have 0 viewers.

You're moving the goalposts. Of course streams with thousands of viewers at a time are not going to have the same 1 to 1 interaction rate that your 1 ccv will have anon. But streamers across the spectrum of size interact with chat directly literally all the time. Being able to quickly scan chat is a useful skill and sometimes it just means responding to messages where the chatter specifically pings the streamer by name and sometimes its that one guy you spot in happenstance.

>>42574710
Even if he's talking about those two specifically or somebody like Moonmoon, I've watched all three and seen them specifically respond to messages in chat. They may not read back the message entirely or even call that person out by name, but you can tell they're responding to the message from chat because at that size of audience they'll typically treat the chat as a mass entity rather than individuals. Its just a style thing. Streamer vs chat is a dynamic as old as Twitch.

All my starting high energy and passion that I had when starting streaming is completely gone now. I know I've said this a dozen times and some other anons have too, but consider treating your streams as live recordings for content off of stream. Cut your stream into clips or shorts, edit them into compact videos. Treat the stream as though you are live producing other content and then having an audience is a bonus. To add to this, streamers really aren't in a good position to even know what bitrate to stream at. 99% of the time if your bitrate is too high and it causes a viewer to leave they will not tell you why, they just leave. The viewer probably wont even realize what is happening and why this certain stream is not loading correctly, they will just leave without saying anything. Likewise, if your bitrate is too low, 99% of the time people will just leave without saying anything.

So for this reason I say just go with exactly what twitch recommends so that you can maintain some sort of status quo with everyone else. Unless maybe you are playing a game which looks far far better with a higher bitrate or specifically get complaints one way another about your bitrate.

The only answer you can give to this question is it depends on how many viewers will tune in to your stream that have 2k downstream available to them and that we can't know because we won't know who's going to tune in to his streams. What's the timezone he's streaming it, does he cater to a specific region / language? He asks the question and expects a yes or no answer... in what world does that constitute as advice...

>always focus on improving the viewing experience and not viewership
Ironically in this case these are synonymous because if you increase your viewership, by the time you get affiliate your viewers get variable quality settings for your stream and his question becomes a non-issue because it simply doesn't matter anymore.

Engaging aggressively with negative chatters is a double edged sword that can easily blow up on you. It basically requires you to always be a step ahead of whoever you're going to dunk on while also having command presence in your own stream. If you have either missing then you're just giving a troll or upset chatter another means to dunk on you. Additionally, dwelling on a bad chatter just drags the whole stream vibe down, distracts from whatever your content was supposed to be, and just generally can go all sorts of wrong.

>The only answer you can give to this question
thats not a question though, wtf is wrong with you? he very clearly asked someone for an opinion on stream settings and then someone gave him a nonsense non answer about it depending on the uploaders connection and setup, which is literally wrong if the downloader cant choose to limit the download quality of the stream but idk how it works on twitch. I assume the question and what they actually want to know by asking it is what stream settings for bitrate and if 1080 30 @2000 is okay respectively. also you can answer because you dont need to know all that other shit its called refuting the premise

anyways the proper answer is to make sure your other settings are correct for the encoding side of things, use nvenc if you can and if you cant because of your gpu use the best 264 quality preset you can (slower is better but harder to run), dont exceed half or three quarters of your upload speed on bitrate and if you do use nvenc you should use the best downscaling option when downscaling. you could basically get away with high quality 2000 Kbps if your computer is really good and you are okay with running it pretty hard when encoding. realistically i think almost anyone can handle 3000 Kbps for a stream even on congested networks.

i was literally quoting the question i was referring to, which had nothing to do with his encoding settings. he wanted to know if 1080p 30fps @2k is "accessible" for viewers. I didn't think about him asking how the stream is going to look like, because you can literally check that within a second by pressing the record button or just going live. So I assumed he was asking how likely it is that everyone is going to be able to watch his stream with those settings (without it freezing i assume) because that he can't really test. But only he knows what he means by "accessible".

We now have like 4 different interpretations of his question, which should give you an inkling on how the question asked might have not been the most efficient.

You should just stream on YouTube. YouTube is the superior streaming platform right now for new streamers for the past few months. On YT there are way more watched stream hours than streamed stream hours, so the potential for an audience is way bigger on YT than Twitch. Twitch is irrelevant and it hasn't been relevant for a long time now, so if you have something worth selling, just sell it on YouTube.

>> No.42599650

I know this is kind of a joke, but its arguably better to be a 0 view than a 1 view on twitch. At least when people sort for vtubers from low to high on you at least show up at the very top of the list. I never really tried it myself back when I was streaming into the void, but theoretically it should help new people find you easier when you are regularly streaming to nobody.

So maybe some good advice might be to try turning off your own stream player when you are streaming sometime. Better to be at the very very bottom of the list then stuck among the sea of 1 views. Its not like your actual number of viewers is any different.

When you hit affiliate on Twitch you can't have the same content on both platforms within 24 hours and takes a bigger cut but has the generally better chat experience and viewing experience.

Youtube takes a smaller cut of your income, has much better discoverability and VOD support, scheduling support, etc.

Streaming on both means you end up with a fractured audience because most of your viewers aren't going to bounce between the to two platforms to watch your streams.

This is just completely wrong. The tools people have for discoverability on twitch is the game browser and the user tags system, and people do use both all the time to find new streamers. Sure it advantages bigger streamers more, and it gets harder and harder to get big on twitch every day as more and more streamers stream on the site, but the system has made so many streamers successful without even once shilling off platform and without once being featured. Not to mention the raiding and hosting systems on the platform, its just absurd to suggest that there is no tools to aid in discoverability on twitch.

Hell, here have a little snippet of where my on platform views come from on twitch just as proof.
