When in reality, NijiJP grows in total each year. Because it's impossible to watch everyone, every new debut mostly brings in new people, while old fans still mostly stick to their old oshi. The flow between talents is insignificant. Newbies tend to have their own unique fanbase instead of sharing a bunch of people with their senpai, and most of them won't be affected by newbies.
On NijiEN side, the viewers do overlap more than on the JP side because of the common FOMO within western Vtuber fandom. Still, even in the Lazuobysida days, the debut of Ethryia hardly affected the first 2 waves' viewerships. And the hit of Luxiem just made their total to be bigger than ever. Even now, the debut of Xsoleil hardly affects those who originally watched the other waves too. They have their own circle of fans.
The whole cannibalizing thing is basically a fantasy if you really observe their viewership and chat overlap instead of blindly throwing out an argument here.
