Raids from and collabs with bigger twitch streamers are pretty much the only way to blow up there. You can also try to algorithmically blow up on another platform and try to bring some of that audience onto twitch but crossover onto twitch from other platforms tends to really suck and any people that do follow your twitch are much more unlikely to watch.

Well, the goal is to get some of the raiders to follow you. You can't really count that raid specifically as your viewers of course, but once they follow you and come back to watch you on a different day they are just as much one of your viewers as somebody who found you organically. The shit thing about twitch is that there really is no such thing as "blowing up" in the same way as you might on YouTube TikTok Twitter or probably a ton of other social media. There is no algorithm that is going to shove your stream in the face of thousands of people, your stream is displayed to users of the site in a transparent and obvious manner, though it is pretty unfair to new streamers in how it does it.

The problem is that YouTube has a really shit system for finding streamers that are just starting off and have no followers or viewers. I know of no way that I could specifically look for small streamers on YouTube, it's literally impossible on the site and I am pretty sure there is no external tool that makes it possible. On twitch it's as simple as sorting from low to high and I am given a ton to look at, throw in the vtuber tag and I can choose between literally hundreds of 1views at peak hours. And there are, surprisingly, quite a few people who do look for small streamers/vtubers, especially if they are female.

So basically to get any views at all from YouTube itself you are at the mercy of the algorithm. Which can certainly be gamed to some extent, but the problem is that the "traditional vtuber" model (the hololive model of variety streaming) is really really bad at picking up any steam with the algorithm, and that's usually what people want to do when they say they want to be a vtuber. So that's why people usually recommend that people start on twitch. If you want to go with YouTube fully with the intent to game the algorithm with all your might, it probably would work quite well if you know what you are doing.

keep in mind that this requires some planning due to my timezone even from over 100 vtubers i have interacted with in some shape or form, I'm always the first to go live so I'll never have a chance to get raided. I could only get raids from aussies or asians but the latter usually prefers to stream in their own language and i know only very few aussies. If you don't show any progress in each application, yes. Even irl companies would give you a 1 year period in between applications for you to pad out your resume first.
Remember just like your real job, tons of people didn't start out in top firms, but they ended up going to those firms somewhere along their career after having years of experience

In theory YouTube is better if you use it as intended (Build an audience from prerecorded videos and then move onto livestreaming), in practice almost no one does, and even if you do use it as intended, people would rather watch streams on Twitch so you're better off plugging in your Twitch at the end of your videos instead of going live on the same channel you post videos on (See Randon, he did everything properly and still got higher views on his Twitch than on YouTube). Another factor is that people expect vtubers to always be streamers, so prerecorded vtuber content doesn't do as well as nocam or facecam content, have you ever gotten a vtuber video on your feed that wasn't:

I decided to focus on my current streaming efforts this year, despite originally intending to begin vtubing in January. At this rate, won't likely happen until April or May.

Transition from 3 to 4 view seems to be about converting to an emotive suggestive programming model. Map certain emotional responses to emotes and use them as indicators for chat to spam based on your canned responses to give an outlet for low effort chatters. For instance "Lets GOOOOOO" or "Poggers".
For segments with actual discussion you're going to need to find someone to help you program filters that split messages into different windows. Or just git gud.

Its impossible to say without knowing who you are. Though I will just say, just putting in a lot of time and hard work is definitely not sufficient, hell im not even sure being talented and putting in a ton of effort into making it is enough at this point. That being said, I think just the act of streaming and developing your skill is quite rewarding in and of itself. So I cant really recommend not trying your luck. Just focus on the journey and not the destination, that's all I will say.
