The pre and post game banter is good (even if it can get very repetitive) but then they turn on a game and it's just awful, they're like the game grumps, they barely pay attention to the game at all, which you'd think would be fine, EXCEPT, they can't talk to chat for shit. You're lucky to get a one line response to a message that allows for no followup. So then they're just left with game commentary, which is either the most basic fucking stereotypical 2view youtube let's play play by play possible, or complaining about not understanding the game they're not paying attention to. This is all while you have to stay completely focused on the stream because there isn't even voice acting with emotions and inflections, it's JUST text.
I'm pulling out the YouTube Skits card. It's what they're best at. They clearly just want to make their ocs talk to each other and play with their dolls, and that's perfectly fine, it's even good, but it's not good for an hour long video game livestream.

Eventually "effort" stops meaning shit when the end product is still bad.

I don't watch them and I definitely wouldn't cold-DM them over this as a result of that, but this is honestly something a lot of chuubas need to understand. You don't have to play video games to be a streamer, a vtuber. I'm not really a fan of the idolLARP some people get into but that's an entirely valid path. So's just doing DIY projects like crafts, cooking/baking, art/modeling, etc. It feels like a lot people think they need to primarily play games, do some karaokes because that's what vtubers do, and occasionally a handcam stream of some type when the ocean of possibilty is fucking vast.

Of course, will these alternatives give you Big Number? I dunno, probably not. But if trying to follow the trends isn't doing it either there's no shame in prioritizing what you really enjoy and what you seem to have more skill at, in this case focusing on character skits/lore.

Good idea with lackluster execution.
For it to have a point as a stream, it would require to be focused on chat interaction/banter BUT this requires both a decently active chat and fast improv comedy.
If not, then a scripted Youtube content is more suited, basically building a story between characters as they go on adventure/games, similarly to the old days of vtubing. Has a lot of potential but it's indeed "off-meta" in term of vtubing and hard to find their audience for such content.

Plenty of people do become friends with their community members or viewers, the issue is when you're trying to maintain a "safe" distance as a entertainer from your audience.
