Hi guys - we had a potential idea for how to change adjustments to make it more interesting/ engaging throughout the day, and make success less dependent on a single time once a day which may not be convenient for everyone. We thought it would be best to run it by the thread and get some opinions.
Currently, adjustment occurs once a day after the statistics from each channel are scraped and we do our calculations on how prices should change. In this new potential system, we still only scrape channel metrics once a day, so we don't have to worry about Susan being wacky. However, the adjustment is divided *randomly, per coin* into 2 sub-adjustment that would occur 12 or so hours apart, one probably in the morning (e.g. 9am ET) and one at night (9pm ET). For example, say a coin is calculated to adjust upwards by $500. We split it by a random amount, which is different every day for every coin. So, for example, it goes up $100 at 9am and the remaining $400 at 9pm. Now, the reason the RNG aspect doesn't ruin it (like I'm sure you're thinking), in my opinion, is because skilled players should know, or at least have an idea of, how a coin will move at adjustment based on their due diligence. If a coin moves $x at the first adjustment and will move $y at the second, someone following that coin should be able to make an assessment of $y based on $x, and therefore whether they should hold and wait until the second adjustment, or make their plays immediately. ("$noel didn't go up nearly as much as she should, I will wait until the second adjustment, when she goes up the rest, to sell" <= only people who are paying enough attention to noel can make this judgement. Players not in the know will just immediately sell when they see she goes up, when they should instead wait.) The "random" manner in which it's split should not actually matter, and is just to prevent people who don't have the required knowledge from immediately determining what will happen at the second adjustment, which defeats the speculative purpose. This will engage discussion, speculation, and increase activity throughout the day, as users debate on how much coins still have left to move. Users who improperly assess the magnitude of the coming adjustment will be punished for making their plays too early, or for waiting too long. Having two adjustments will also make it possible for people who can't be awake/ available to play during one of the adjustments to still make beneficial trades at another time.
This is in no way a perfect, completely fleshed out idea, so I'd love to hear what you think.

I don't think admitting to use RNG in the core game will make the core audience happy.

Also, you talk about how this is a nice solution to the problem at hand (not making a single point in time relevant for success in the game), then you say this will increase discussion and speculation throughout the day - sure, but only for the select few players who actually have time to focus on NASFAQ 12 goddamn hours a day + however long the second selling/buying phase takes. Basically, optimal play would now be to be here twice a day.

If a subadjustment can only go in the direction of the total adjustment the first subadjustment does give actionable information on what to expect for the full adjustment.
This really only slightly mitigates the problem as optimal trading would still require waiting for the second adjustment to both get the full benefit.
Really the biggest gain I see here is those who bet poorly and get a second chance to sell at only partial loss.

The RNG elements are attacking the problem from an incorrect angle.
Firstly, you've made the assumption that those with good DD will have both noticed an incomplete adjustment and also been around for the first adjustment AND the second adjustment to make a play if needed. This is frankly infeasible. Instead of a fixed point in time (or two fixed points in time), you now have created a scenario where you can do your DD and be fucked by the RNG on the coin's adjustment timing. Because of this, the "can't sleep, gotta stonks" crowd will be worse off, and everyone else will be more or less getting lucky.

Regardless of how many adjustments there are, the time needs to be a fixed point. Even if you want to make it different for each coin to stagger adjustments throughout the day, the adjustment itself needs to be a fixed point to schedule and make plays around.

The issue with several mini adjustments throughout the day is in getting the stats from youtube. It doesn't currently work with the current way we do adjustments and would require a lot of reworking. It also kills the actual "adjustment time" aspect of the game which a lot of players look forward to.

I agree people will probably be mad when they hear "RNG", but in this scenario, nothing about how the actual price changes at the end of the day is random, only how it was divided between the two adjustments. It is still up to the players themselves to determine when the best time to trade is.
And to your second point - of course I recognize people won't be able to actively talk in the thread 12 hours a day, but thats not really any different than it is not. You don't need to be constantly talking, you can just skim the thread and make posts occasionally like you are doing right now. The point is it's more to fuel debate and discussion.

Yes, I agree. This mechanic would have to come with the buy/sell orders. I think it would kind of adding to the problem instead of fixing it if it required a player to be there not once but twice daily. My point is that Due Diligence is a fucking meme and you either have to get lucky as fuck or have no life. I pop in like 10 minutes before adjustments because that's the fucking time my actual real life obligations allow me to devote to this game: a few cursory checks a day and about 10 minutes on each side of adjustments.

Your MPP really doesn't matter in the long run. Take Mori as a recent example. If you bought in on all the bogged days you would have had ~a 4500 MPP but she spiked on a Wednesday and settled ~6400. She returned 26% this week. Assuming you had 50 shares you would have made ~173k. If you sold all 50 shares and used that money to buy Subaru+Matsuri you would have made ~200k.
