The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

Assuming no content creation experience, if you're only shilling here as a 1view, people and companies will forget/not care by the time you qualify for a corpo. Others can give better networking advice, but in general if you're not mingling offstream at least a bit then it's hard to expect people to mingle with you when they see you going live. Maybe just put your Twitter reps in the same mental space as setting up stream, like tweaking OBS settings, and get into the habit of doing them alongside each other. I dunno. Also, all this depends what you stream. (Also also depends on gender, to an extent)

If you don't want to make people feel like you are using them just talk to people that are at the same viewership level as you or lower. Go in their streams and try to get to know them, and often they will return the favor if they are very small and just starting. Ask them if they want to do a stream together some time. Generally they will be as happy to be approached as you would be to have somebody approach you.

Hard to answer. "How do I talk to people" is kind of the million-dollar question in general, you know? But to give an example, I've been lurking in a very active server for a larger vtuber and made two acquaintances there so far. We already have the chuuba in common to start with, and those two people talked about having other tastes/hobbies that are similar to mine, so I just asked more about that to open the conversation. It's not like we're joined at the hip, but it's something. Not everyone will belong in your social network, but on some level you can't know if they will without reaching out.

I'll just be blunt with you here, since this kind of thing is not at all obvious to new streamers. Collabs when you first start off are terrible for growth. The main reason people watch very small streamers is that they are able to talk directly to the streamer in a very personable way. This is the one advantage they have over bigger streamers. Collabs completely ruin this dynamic because it become impossible to correctly respond to chat when you are also talking with your guest, completely removing almost any reason why people would watch you in the first place. Collabs only become useful once you and your colab partner already have fanbase of your own, so that you can cross pollinate your fanbase between each other and hopefully grow both of your audiences at the same time by mixing them.

I'm female, so I know that is considered a 'buff'. I'll try fiddling with Twatter but I've never used social media very much before so it's a first foray into it, of sorts. It would be nice to make friends with other vtubers (female) but I hate the idea of Discord servers and the like. I was just testing some voice stuff and listening to the recordings, I mumble alot of words and pronounce stuff in an awkward way. I suppose I'm like that in real life too.

Figured, but it pays to make sure. I think it's a lot more complex than buff/debuff, but I might be in the minority in thinking that. I feel like starting from zero, females benefit the most from showing off "cuteness" whereas males are best off showing "coolness," which can look like confidence or expertise or other things, depending. In general, cuteness is easier to show off and immediately identify, hence the idea of easier growth. Something like that, it's complicated of course.

It's not undoable though if both you and your partner are both skilled and aware that responding to chat is something that is really important. Usually this is done by only streaming on one channel and having both streamers watch chat carefully. You can also divvy up responsibilities, say one person reads chat messages and the other responds to it in some way kick-starting some kind of conversation between the two of you. This requires a good deal of discipline and likely chemistry between the two streamers, but I have seen it done surprisingly well.

I think it's a buff in the way that females do get followers and viewers much more easily to start out, but at the same time they very quickly get surrounded by a bubble of positivity that often prevents them from ever really becoming introspective in the way that they would need to to improve themselves or their stream. Then the only form of negative feedback they get is weird cruel rrats from places like this or people they know that are envious of them often causing them to quit. Females so often immediately get stuck in the 5-20 ccv range and just completely stagnate until they quit without even attempting to really change how they stream or try to be creative with what the do.

Almost every male I have seen (except those who are absolute geniuses at pre-debut marketing) spent a pretty large amount of time literally streaming into the void with zero audience. And either this toughened them up or weeded out those with weak willpower because holy shit it is so rare for so many of these males to quit. They just keep streaming and streaming until they find some niche or develop/discover a new talent that they then use to really start carving out their own audience from nothing.
