Trust. I think it’s lack of trust. Viewers assume the content creators only gives a shit about the money, content creators think their viewers are either normalfags who’ll move onto the next big thing or schizos who they can’t trust with anything personal.
Everyone has the idea of ditching the person they watch/the people they stream to in the back of their head. Hell, a lot of people on both sides probably don’t do it willingly, just out of a fear that whomever they watch/their audience will turn on them at any moment.
In JP I guess the culture and norms are stricter, so anyone who isn’t planning on breaking those feels more relaxed and doesn’t have that distrust brewing in the back of their head

A culture where breaking previously-acknowledged social rules is encouraged, and where being a piece of shit is viewed neutrally if not positively, versus a culture with a working moral framework (however flawed) that a given person can trust will still exist tomorrow and the day after that.

A big problem with low-trust societies is that they incentivize even good people to be terrible, because if you try to be good you'll get fucked over without restitution.
